TED Stockings

i had anterior approach 3/15. I was told these stockings need to remain in place for 4 weeks. They make it difficult to sleep. Anyone else have a problem with them?

    Hi Catherine

Yes they were awful, I had hip replacement 5 weeks ago,,I was told to leave stockings on for 6 weeks but they were so uncomfortable and we're cutting in the bend behind my knee. I removed them about a week ago, I know I really shouldn't have but I couldn't stand to wear them. I also figured as I was walking about a bit more that I would hopefully be ok. So far so good. After 4 weeks I'd had enough

    Take care Lisa x

    Hi Catherine,

Warm welcome to this wonderful forum and to this side of Hippie land -

Argh, the darn TED stockings - Interesting, because with anterior approach you have less restrictions  than posterior approach ...

My surgeon didn't precribe them to, and i was also allowed to sleep on my unoperated side ... I had to self-ject Fragmin, blood thinning meds, for 6 weeks though ...

don't hesitate to come back here if you have any concerns or questions, okay?

    big warm hug

    Catherine,

yes - everyone has that problem - and we usually get them for 6 weeks, in fact I (and some others on here) have had two sessions of TEDs for 6 weeks in the last 5 months.

See my website (address below) for more info.

The hospital told my hubby to wear the TEDs in the day and remove them at night which gives him some relief. It does mean we have a daily fight to put them on but it's worth it. Strange how everyone gets such different advice.

Hospital taught me a trick put a plastic bag over his foot , put stocking on over heel pull bag out through hole. Makes it a little easier

Sounds like the bag my hospital gave me - a NeoSlip - see my website "Admissions" page.

I must be one of the lucky ones, I didn't get them, just the blood thinning injections, but my leg swelled up massivley,

Leg swelling is due to the trauma of this brutal operation, mainly from the dislocation of the joint, but also from all the other unspeakable things they do to your poor leg to fit the parts in you.

I was told to wear them for 4 wreks but due to swelling around knee and tgem digging in I took them off yesterday , and already can feel and see an improvement with swelling . I have injections until Thursday . Strange tho as my dad had lthr two weeks before me and was not given stockings at all ??? Just injections , I guess it all depends on hospital /surrgeon
