Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me how long I should wear my stockings for? I can't remember if it's 5 (tummy injections are 5 weeks) or 6 weeks.

The weather here has been uncharacteristicly glorious, and let's say some refurbishment to my legs/toe nails shall have to be carried out by a beautician 😊.

Hope everyone is doing well today.

Fiona

    Hi Fiona.

I'm 5 wks this Sunday post op. Have my last injection today. I've never had the stockings on. I asked about them, they said we don't use them here (in hospital ) they said, it keeps blood flow away from the foot. Who is right?

      Hi Brenda,

Thanks, there does seem to be so much conflicting advice, doesn't there. I would agree however, that I think they sometimes gather at the ankles and cut in, can't wait to get them off.

I think you will find that different surgeons recommend different things, even in the same hospital. I was told 6 weeks, but took them off at 3 weeks when I was getting very much more mobile and active, after talking to my practice nurse. A friend who was operated on in the same hospital didn't have them at all. I think it also very much depends on your general health and level of mobility etc.

    Good healing to you!

    Hi Fiona,

I was told 6 weeks, however I took them off after 3 weeks as I was pretty mobile again and the swelling had gone down.  I also live on my own so my mum who is 65 was having to come round to change them for me which I didnt think was fair on her.

When I went for my check up on Monday, the physio told me off for not having them on any more and just warned me that there is a risk of DVT's for up to 6 weeks and I should be wearing them.  I'm not though wink

      Thanks David,

I'm sorely tempted to taking them off, it's scorching hot here and they're not a good look with dresses and short trousers 😊. It's interesting that some people haven't had to wear them at all.

    hi fiona,

     -

I didn't get the stockings either but had to self-inject Fragmin for 6 weeks -

Tough decision  to make on your own ...

Enjoy the glorious weather, darling ....

    big warm hug

I was a goodie 2 shoes - well one shoe - and wore mine for the full 6 weeks (I did change them by the way) yes I was truly fed up particularly at night, but I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I'd got a DVT for the sake of a few weeks, lucky for me my hubby was a pro at putting them on - I wonder! wink

Me too - who would want a DVT for the sake of a few weeks with those awful TEDs ?

My wife was no good at getting them on to my legs, I had to get my son to do it.
