    HI well done

I am also 52 and 12 weeks post surgery.

My consultant did not use TED stockings i was prescribed oral asprin instead.

This is my second hip replacement i was advised to use two crutches for 6 weeks and one stick for the following 6. I really needed the stick

as i could not walk properly without.

Today I am walking well without any difficulty and no sticks which has been a great celebration.

We all heal differently good luck please take care.

    Hi Jo

I am also wondering the same, 53, 2 weeks post op, walking v well with one crutch, taking blood thinning tablets with minimum painkillers. Seeing my physiotherapist on Monday. My issue is I am on my own.Have had help getting them on after showering but going home today and pretty sure I won't be able to get them on until I get my sisters visiting but not everyday. Going to take advice from hospital.

    All the best

hi Jo, I'm 70 and 3 months post op and I too was on my own most of time, i used support stockings for about a week and they were so difficult to manage even with a sock helper thingy . My legs didn't swell for more than 4 or 5 days so I stopped wearing them. i raised my legs when lying down and I was fine. Ask your doctor and if he says you must wear them, get a sock helper thing,. They do help getting them on your feet and partially up your leg. Whether its high enough for you to reach and fully pull up without breaking the rules of movement is the question. good luck!

I feel your pain!! I hated them too and discarded them at 3 weeks. I was on blood thinning meds and walking regularly so made the decision to leave them off. Any time I was sitting I rotated my feet and flexed them up and down to keep blood flowing. Some surgeons don't even issue them .

Good luck with your recovery. I'm 6 months post op and doing fine.

So, my hospital did not give them out in first place, simply on junior asprin.

Sounds like you recovering well: do you really need them?

    Good lucks

Yes, for 6 weeks ..... it's the worst part of recovery.

I know, I have been through that three times in the last 3 years!

Once they are off, you will sleep better too.

They are given for a reason, to stop blood clots and DVT, and as my father died of a DVT, I was not going to go against all medical advice on wearing them.

same here. Was instructed to wear mine for 6 weeks. 11/28 makes 6 weeks and I can't wait to get these things off. Yes, they can be quite uncomfortable, but Dr.'s orders........lol

hi there, Had my op late AUGUST so now three months on and am doing well. Ditched the crutches after 5 weeks, no pain relief needed. took iron tablets as I had apparently lost quite a bit of blood during op, but am now fine.

Was never offered stockings to wear. Had some contraptions on both legs at hospital which were plugged in and expanded at intervals to stop clotting.

so, my guess would be that you don't really need them by now.

    By the way, I'm 60!

    Good luck!

    Hi Jo

I am 4 weeks post op on a revised left hip replacement. Like you I hate these silly socks 😃 i am walking with only one stick in the house and am even managing to walk a little bit in the house holding onto things . Outside I am managing to walk twice a day averaging about two miles each time whilst using two sticks but perioically just using one stick and carrying the other. I am hoping to drop to one stick completely soon. My physio also gave me harder exercises on Monday as the original ones have become to easy. I am also still injecting my stomach for the next week, so like you I don't see why I should have to still wear the socks. I would love to ditch them but daren't try so will stick with them only two weeks to go:)

    hope your recovery goes well
