Along with needing reading glasses for the first time at 43, this was one of my first symptoms. I'm now 50, with no period for 1 and a half years. When peri started for me, my gums became swollen, and I started using sensitive mouth toothpaste. Thought I had tmj. Had a filling fall apart, which needed a root canal. Now I am struggling with awful anxiety and white coat syndrome. Been putting off my 6 month dental check up for at least 6 months. Saw my gp yesterday for rx refills and my bp was high. I know that's only cuz I get SO nervous. Was never like that in the past. I used to work in the medical field. Wth?! Rest assured that this is peri. And it does get better. Still struggling with many symptoms, but am hopeful that there is a light at the end of this very dark tunnel.

I'm 50 and the past few years I've had cavities and THOUGHT I had others problems too. He would examine and take X-rays and nothing would be there. I think it's hormones. I have switched to sensitive toothpaste and use coconut oil to swish (about 10 minutes) with in the morning. I also wear a nightguard at night. I take Vit D and calcium for bone health. I read that coq10 is good for the gums so I take that too. I'm so scared that I will lose my teeth sooner than I need too and have always had anxiety about going to the dentist. I also read that grass fed butter is better for teeth so I use that well.

yes, I have ONE sensitive tooth. Just one.
I've had the filling shifted, x rays and countless examinations, and nothing is wrong with the tooth. I guess it is just another hormonal prank...

I'm with you here. I'm just recovering from one root canal and one tooth extraction all in a matter of two days. Had to have another one pulled last year. I think from all the anxiety I grind my teeth at night, and what happens is, if you have an old root canal tooth that has a crown, the tooth becomes brittle and can fracture. The tooth I had to have pulled was that kind of tooth, and the dentist couldn't find anything wrong with it, but it was so painful I couldn't even touch it with my tongue. Finally the oral surgeon looked at the xrays in all kinds of ways and found that the tooth was indeed fractured.
I do find that when my symptoms are really acting up my teeth will all start hurting too.
Teeth problems are the worse. I'm picturing myself being that old lady with one tooth left.
And I brush, floss, and water pick. What more can I do? ugggghhhh

I just came back from a dentist appointment literally two hours ago. I had to get a cap/crown for one tooth. I am in pain, my dentist said I almost needed a root canal. I also grind my teeth at night because of all the peri anxiety, he's going to make me a nightguard. It all started with perimenopause, now my TMJ flared up which gives me worst headache and ear ringing. how much these hormones can mess you up, it's unbelievable.
