Hi ladies,

This is a strange one I didn’t see coming, but Over the last week my teeth have aches in and off and so has my jaw.  For some reason I looked closer at my teeth last night and I think one of my top teeth has moved slightly ?? Has anyone else had this happen at all ? I honestly don’t know how long it’s been like it ? It’s just that wasthe first time I noticed it and of course now I’m feeling all anxious and thinking the worst 😢 like . . . OMG is it going to end up sticking out ?? I hate the dentist so this is bad news for me ! I’m praying it won’t get any worse x

Oh wow, I just said to my husband yesterday that my teeth hurt! First time i’ve experienced this symptom. It even hurts to brush them but it’s not all of my teeth, it’s the upper left side. I’ve been have bad muscle and joint aches along with it. What is up? I’m 55 and haven’t had a period in 6 months

My teeth and jaw hurt and I usually associate it with tension. Anxiety is my worst meno symptom and I think I must be clenching my jaw. When I concentrate on relaxing my jaw, the pain goes away. Good luck!

Hi Debbie - yep, about 10 months ago out of the blue my left side of my jaw/teeth ached for about a week, I was convinced I was going to have a heart attack in the next coming weeks (thank you anxiety!). Now, I just noticed that the space between my two front teeth has definitely gotten bigger...oh well, I guess I will just be looking more like Lauren Hutton at 61 - HAH! This is so much fun!!  Not!

I've had a nightmare with my teeth the last couple of years and wondered if it was linked to the perimenopause. I've suddenly needed loads of fillings, had root canal treatment, a tooth extraction, jaw pain and sensitive teeth and I'm terrified of the dentist so it not doing my stress levels any good!!! The dentist suggested to me that I might be grinding my teeth in my sleep and if I feel anxious a lot I might be clenching my jaw during the day which might be causing some of the problems. You can get a mouth guard to wear at night which might help. I was also told my jaw pain was TMJ and given jaw exercises to do which seem to have helped and I'm making an effort to relax my jaw during the day as I've realised I do clench it a lot if I'm stressed. How are you holding you jaw as you read this? Do you have your teeth tight together and jaw tight or are your teeth apart and jaw relaxed? Try holding your jaw in both positions and you will notice how much more relaxed you feel if your teeth are apart and you won't be putting so much pressure on them. Hopefully the tooth sticking out is nothing to worry about so try and not get too stressed about it!

      Hi Elaine,

Thank you so much for your reply.  I’m sure it’s got a lot to do with Peri 😢 I summoned up the courage (plus a Valium) and went to the dentists today . . . I wanted to have peace of mind ! Well whilst there was nothing wrong with the tooth I went about, after an x Ray I was told I needed a root filing !! So now I’m freaking out because like you I hate going . .  It gives me a major stress and anxiety !! I don’t think I clench or grind but maybe I do in my sleep !!! Beginning to wish I hadn’t gone now x

      Hi Debbie

I'm really sorry to hear you need a root canal treatment. When I was told I needed one I didn't think I could go through with it and was going to get sent to a dental hospital to get knocked out to have it done as my fear of dentists was so bad. I decided to join a different dentist as I heard good reports about another local one who specialises in nervous patients and she's brilliant! She's so patient with me and really helps calm me down and she suggested listening to music through headphones while I get the treatment done. I now take an MP3 player and listen to music when getting any dental treatment and just try to pretend that I'm just listening to some songs and nothing bad will happen. It sounds mad but I also take a kids toy called a Tangler which you wind round your fingers to distract my hands rather than lying with them clenched. If your brain is concentrating on other things it won't be as focused on what's happening in your mouth. I'll always dread the dentist too but try and get the treatment done as soon as possible to get it out the way and then you'll be more relaxed. Just think to yourself 'you've done it before so you can do it again!". Good luck for your appointment!!!

Be sure to take Calcium, Vitamin D and Mag vitamins.  Also, . Often  supplements given for bone loss can actually cause bone loss in the jaw, started happening to me.
