Beginning of December last year. Had bad stomach ache on and off for a week, thought it would just go away.

Woke up one morning and it had got worse.

GP came to see me and said she thought it might be gallstones.

Went to hospital, they sent me home with antibiotics claiming it was a urine infection that would clear up.

A few days later, had a letter from hospital to go for a scan.

    Scan revealed gallstones.

Symptoms were bad pains in my right side and stomach.

    No nausea just pain.

Had gallbladder removed 6 months ago.

Certainly better than I was but still pain in my right side.

Due to go for endoscopy at beginning of December.

GP now thinks either I have IBS or a small stone may be stuck in my bile duct.

Hopefully endoscopy will show if there is anything there.

When mine went bad, I dealt with

    Chest pain

    Pain under right ribcage

Pain in back of right ribcage

    Dry heaving

    Weight loss

    Lethargic

Dull constant Pain, worse after eating

Constipated constantly due to being on the brat diet

The surgeon when I was in the hospital though it was dyskensia, but my EF% on my HIDA came back at 78%, which is considered biliary hyperkinesia. He said that was "normal". The surgeon I saw to get a second opinion said that a number that high isn't normal, that anything over 65% is considered high.

I ended up going through all these tests before the surgeon said the gallbladder needed to come out:

    Stress test

    2 endoscopes

3 ultrasounds (which never showed stones)

    HIDA scan

    Upper gi

    CT scan

    Countless orders of bloodwork

When they did the pathology on the gallbladder, it was diseased and had at least 10 stones in it, some as big as .5 centimeters.

Hopefully you get some answers on what is going on. Good luck.

I don't actually know if mine is a gallbladder issue but that's what I'm putting it down to. I get intermittent pain in my upper right abdomen. When I lay down on my right side, even if I have been pain free, I can feel a milder version of what I normally feel. An ultrasound was clear. My alkaline phosphatase is raised and so is my Immunoglobluin A. I'm going to GP again next week. I have heard beetroot is good for gallbladder so am drinking beetroot tea and eating beetroot as though it's going out of fashion. Don't know if it will help.

Beet root and apple cider vinegar and carrots helped me immensely. But eventually the pain became so bad that beetroot wasn't cutting it.

Mine started after having my baby, had had some discomfort during the pregnancy but just thought was indigestion then after I had her the pain got more intense and one time ended up in a and e as my right side under my ribs and boob was so painful only hot water bottles got rid and co codamol. First time a and e gave me morphine and buscapan then asked me to come back for ultra sound said they would contact me in 8 weeks to have op. I was then took in a few two times and got an op rushed through a week after. I had my op 4th September 15 and 4 days later I was rushed back in with an internal bleed. After a week or so in hospital on numerous antibiotics, morphine, anti sickness blah blah I finally came home.

It's been a journey to say the least ...

Now I know I have gallstones I think back to the times I've had "trapped wind" 😳 which started a couple of years a go.

April this year I had awful tummy ache, mainly on my right hand side under my rib cage, after 5 days of eating trapped wind meds and antacids like they were smarties I finally went to the doctors, was examined and was given prescription antacids and to to go on a low fat diet for 2 weeks and cut out dairy (still pretty much dairy free now) as he thought it was acid reflux but could be gall stones, the pain settled eventually well for a month and I had what I thought was another acid flare up, back to the doctors, antacid dose doubled and sent on my way, no one asked about the low fat diet or mentioned gall stones.....starting being really careful with what I ate and thought I'd stayed clear from what would trigger acid.....had a few smaller attacks that only lasted an hour tops, until August, I was naughty and had an ice cream whilst at the zoo and my God didn't I pay for it, spent hours attempting to go to the toilet 🙈 trying to lay down and get comfy, taking paracetamol and codeine, I finally passed out from being exhausted, the pain lasted a few more days, back to the doctors again, antacids changed and because I had gown up smoking I was now told about a test that can be done to check that I didn't have an infection that can cause acid.......I had to do a stool sample 😳😳 first one was inadequately labelled by the doctors and was rejected it then took the doctors a week to inform of this and I'd need to do another one, in this time I had a huge attack and called 111 and was prescribed peptac liquid.....my partner thought I was giving birth due to being squat down, bent over and panting as it was the only thing I could do to relieve some of the pain I was in as any painkillers I had taken is thrown up, so I was violently sick and had excruciating pain in my tummy mainly my right side and in my back on the right side, after 2 days of not knowing what to do with myself I plucked up the courage to go to the doctors as I thought surely I'm being a wimp and the doctors don't need me to waste their time.....luckily I saw a doctor who referred me for an ultrasound....went for scan and it's showed multiple stones and sludge!!! Went straight onto extremely low fat diet (3%) whilst I waited for an appointment with the consultant. The scan was on the Friday and Sunday is felt uncomfortable and that night I had an ambulance out, on gas and air and given morphine, back to the doctors again after this for 2 weeks asking why I felt so poorly, so energy, was getting worse, blood work showed that my liver isn't functioning properly and was told that I would just keep going down hill until surgery!! I work in a special school and by this point I'd had 4 weeks of a 7 week term off work due to this....I was due to see my consultant Monday 27th October, the Saturday before I'd ended up getting worse, could hardly lift my head off the pillow, couldn't get comfy, I was taking paracetamol, ibuprofen and codeine and nothing was touching it, 5am Sunday morning I saw an out of hours doctor as I couldn't keep water down because I was being so violently sick, I was in agony and exhausted as I hadn't really slept for a couple of days, he prescribed naproxen and antisickness tablets, Monday morning arrived, I still do not know how I got myself dressed and went to the hospital for my appointment, I remember being in the waiting room slumped over a chair as it was all I could do, I was rushed into a side room and all obs taken, I was admitted and blood work done to find that my CRPs were at 205 (normal range is 0-5) I had an infection which was why no pain relief had worked, by this point I'd started turning slightly yellow too, I was kept in for 4 days on IV antibiotics and fluids as I was dehydrated, another ultrasound showed I now had thickening of the GB wall, I was sent home with a weeks worth of 2 lots of antibiotics not once in this time did my temperature go above 37.3!!! Just goes to show what can be going on in our bodies and we don't have to have a temperature! I have surgery booked for Friday yes Friday the 13th lets hope that goes better than the rest of this has.

I haven't written any of this to scare anyone, I have written it to make people aware of what can happen, I knew something wasn't right with my body and no one would listen because I am only 26 and too young for gallstones!!

Best of luck to anyone who is going through this as its awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Hi,  When I look back I think I have had gall stones for about 10 years! I can recall getting the most horrendous pain and thinking it was trapped wind.  Over the years I can recall getting 'episodes' especially when I was on a diet. They would only happen occassionally and I would always put it down to eating the wrong things or drinking too much alcohol!

Then last November I started with the most awful pains in chest and my back it even hurt to wear a bra the highlight of my day was coming home and being able to take my bra off!  The only way the pain would go would be if I was to vomit!  I finally went to see my GP and I was fortunate in that she had just recently had her gallbladder removed and recognised the symptoms.  I had my gallbladder removed in August I was really anxious that having the surgery wouldnt resolve my symptoms but it was the best thing I could have done.  Even the pain from the surgery was nothing in comparison to the pain I had been in.  I have no symptoms and can eat and drink what I like.  The feeling full and back and shoulder pain has completely gone.

I recovered well from the surgery I did take the three weeks off work and wasn't comfortable driving for three weeks.  The treatment I received in the hospital was excellent I went in at 7am and came home at 6pm.

Hi, i went home from work one friday feeling rough dodgy belly ache i thought it was a dodgy prawn. I ended up in a&e obs taken told probs gallstones given codine and told to contact gp monday. 2am i woke up in agony couldnt talk couldnt walk my fiance rushed me to hospital i had scans ultrasoynds and admitted straight away i spent a week in hospital on antibiotics.i had a further week at home then went to work. I lasted one day then back in hospital on morphine even after reducing to a fatfree duet of cod rice and peas!!! Again sent home with antibiotics. Then came 4 weeks of chronic loose bowels i couldnt eat or drink as it went through me i ended up back at drs given diclophenac supositries for my chronic gallbladder and back pain and something for the bowels. 10 weeks after drs every week trying to get painkillers that would work i was told i would be bumped up the op waiting list...... 2 weeks later nothing and another 4 day stay in hospital with yet again another infection. Week 16 i was finally prescribed morphine which took edge off the pain so i could sleep. Week 18 i got the cancellation and im now 6 weeks post op. I have little bits of pain still nothing major but have terrible indegestion if i drink caffine.

everyone is different but i ended up 18 weeks off work (worked from home when i could) the op has changed my life xxxx
