Temazepam (Restoril) For Bipolar, episodes of Subsychotic Rage

Hi everyone,

I am newly diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder, and also have generalized anxiety disorder and ADHD. After my bipolar diagnosis, I immediately stopped my daily routine of smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol at night. I also stopped taking my adderall prescription, because it was making my bipolar symptoms worse, & wasn't a good med for me. I've also cut out all caffeine & totally changed my diet for the better. That being said, I am rapid-cycling very fast- basically every other day I flip polarities do to speak, and this is wreaking havoc on my nervous system and my relationship with my boyfriend. I am seeing a psychologist and a new psychiatrist in a week or so. However, I've been struggling so badly with episodes of basically sub-psychotic rage and loosing my mind with anger, anxiety, and agitation. Because of this I started taking Temazepam to stop these horrible episodes once they begin. I was prescribed Temazepam for sleep, but it doesn't work AT ALL for me in this way...but it does totally knock out the overwhelming anger, racing thoughts, and destructive behavior. I decided to take it during the day for the reasons listed above, because nothing else works, and my boyfriend is understandably threatening to leave me if I can't stop the rage episodes. Does anyone have any thoughts about using Temazepam for daytime use for acute anxiety and episodes of subsychotic rage? I'm REALLY struggling and doing everything I can to get better...any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hi Sarah. Well done for stopping the drink and drugs. I am bipolar too and was diagnosed with it back 2010. My temper was out of control I would black out and not know what I'd done I'd have police officers at the home all the time my partner at the time would regularly go to work with black eyes and scratches all over him .. It just came from nowhere and it was horrendous , I am on lithium 100mg a day at was prescribed quetiapine and take, 600mg a day I stopped drinking and using drugs as when I did things would be like a battle ground. I also had 12 months intensive therapy.. It took approx 12 months to get control to sum what degree. Talk to your therapist and be very honest, take your meds and take one day at a time. Lisa x
