Temovate versus generic?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have read that some doctors and patients do better with the name brand Temovate. Any thoughts on that?

The problem is that my insurance will pay for the generic ointment ($8) but not the Temovate. I can get that for $200/month. Is it worth trying?

I went ahead and ordered $300 Temovate. Christ. Will report if there is any difference from generic.

In the UK the most common brand name of Clobetasol is Dermovate, the other one I have tried is ClobaDerm, Dermovate is manufactured by Glaxo Wellcome in the UK itself.

I do prefer the Dermovate over the ClobaDerm - my guess would be the difference is in the quality of the ingredients that make up the ointment - and just to repeat, it should always be ointment versions to treat anogenital LS rather than cream versions. LS can infect other areas of the body, such as portions of the back, inner-arms and lower breasts where Sebaceous glands do not exist (at least this is my understanding).

In terms of quality of product I would again guess it may have to do with what the active ingredients are suspended in, in that, the higher the quality of this means that it will interfere less with the beneficial impact of the ointment and less likely to cause irritation - but there again, I am no Bio-Chemist or Dermatologist ......
