Tendonitis in my foot!

Posted , 5 users are following.

I've just seen the Consultant for the results of my MRI scan and he confirmed I have tendonitis in my foot.  It's mainly at the right side of my foot, under my arch and the top of my foot. The Consultant has referred me for physiotherapy.  I've suffered with a painful foot since July when I went over badly on my foot and it never seemed to heal.

Can anyone suggest any home treatments for me?  I have a job which involves being on my feet for 7 hour shifts. I really think this physiotherapy treatment may be a long drawn out business and I need some relief NOW!!  Help please.

Hi elaine, Im sorry to say it the only way to relief your foot pain is to stay off them more, working 7 hours a day on your feet won't do them much good in the long run. Hasn't your doctor gave you any pain killers?

Well unfortunately Jordidude01 I have to earn a living and that means going to work so I am unable to stay off my feet more!  When I am at home I'm on my feet doing housework, shopping and taking my dogs a walk......so no I can't stay off my feet.

The doctor is referring me to physio......for what good it will do me!!

I was always on my feet as well but due to my tendonitis i made mine worse and needed surgery. i had to get an office based job, i had to give up my job i loved doing because i couldnt risk making it worse.

i feel your frustration elaine trying to continue your way of life, walking the dogs and working but you might do more damage like i did. I got family and friends helping me all the time whilst im recovering now, is there no one who could help you with the house and dogs so you can r.e.s.t?

I dont see a physio at all any help if im going to be honest. All that i was told when i suffered from tendonitis was to r.e.s.t (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation).

If you been told physio i would get another opinion.

No I don't have family who can help as my elderly mother is in a home and my two adult children have full-time jobs.  My husband is also at work so that leaves me at home doing everything.  To be honest I don't find r.e.s..t helps me much.  I've tried the ice etc and I don't seem to benefit from it.

The consultant who has referred me to physio has a good reputation.  I work in the same hospital as him and I know him well.  He said a cortisone injection would make my foot much worse so the only option is physio.  I don't think he could offer me much else!

And yes I'm very frustrated cos I can't sit on my bum all day and I've always enjoyed being active and walking my 3 dogs.  I'm now going for shorter walks and gradually putting more weight on.  What with my foot and the damn menopause I feel like sticking my head in the nearest gas over sad

Elaine I do sympathise but I tore my achilles 8 months ago and had no choice but to stay home, I have a disabled daughter I couldn't care for. All I could do was drag myself to the toilet on my bum, I am back at work now but still struggle everyday to continue, and am constantly fighting with myself to walk and regain normality. Sometimes you have to call upon people to help you, be patient and realise that everything changes all the time, for menopause try ginger, have a fan to hand for flushes.

    Hi Elaine,

I have tendonitis in my peroneal tendon that wraps around my ankle. This started 8 months ago and because im a waitress working on my feet, i made the situation much worse. After 3 months of forcing myself to work because i am a student struggling i decided to find treatment that will help like physio.. unfrotunately.. everything made it worse.. after months of trying. I couldnt work, i couldnt drive my car.. nothing... so i thought maybe cortisone. So I paid a lot of money to see a specialist and instead of recommending a cortisone injection he told me about Plasma Rich Platelet injection which is now very common in the USA... i am in Australia. I had the injection I'd say 6 weeks ago. I had the injection, for two weeks I did the RICE.. rest, ice, compression  and elevation. They said to treat it as if it is a NEW INJURY. .. then started straight back to work doing 6 hour shifts at a time with an ankle brace. It was very hard at first because it was still quite painful but not like it was before.  Now.. i can do a 12 hour shift with some discomfort around my ankle. . Sometime pain about 3 out of 10. I ice it every night and keep it elevated... but i have my life back. Which is what i think u need. I can work, i can now do my shopping... i can live everyday but just have to stay mindful of how much i am using my tendon... but still.. that injection really made all thie difference... So maybe this might be an option for u.

      Hi Natasha,

Thank you for your message.  I've since found out the reason for my tendonitis is due to the fact I have very high arches!  I started physiotherapy and the exercises have helped and the physio advised me to buy some shoe inserts which I have and things are improving now.  I've been referred to a Podiatrist to have some shoe inserts specially made for me.  Ironically, the foot problem is clearing up but I'm now having aches and pains in my right knee (same side as my tendonitis in the foot).  The physio said if I don't cure my foot problem then I could have hip or knee problems in the future.

My consultant advised against a cortisone injection as he said it would make my condition much worse.  I've never heard of the Plasma Rich Platelet injection?  Wonder if it's available here in England?  Anyway, while things are still improving with the help of my excercises I shouldn't complain.  Pity there is such a long waiting list for me to see the Podiastrist!!

Thank you for your help and advice,

      Elaine.

You may have a high arch so try arch support and gel insoles. For inflammation try supplementing with Bromalain and NSAID like ibuprofen at the same time. Take magnesium with D3 to relax your muscle. Take collagen to lubricate your tendon and rebuild it. Alternate between icing your painful area then wrapping it up in plastic for extreme heat. Repeat above in heavy doses.

      Hi Peppe,

Thanks for the advice.  I'm pleased to say that the physio exercises seem to have much improved my foot and I've actually been discharged from the physio now.  I'm due to see a Podiatrist next week and will probably get some bespoke inserts made for my shoes.  But on the whole I'm much better and hardly any pain now :-)

      Thanks again.

This is ridiculous.  Everyone says stay off your feet.  That's a gross impossibility in reality.  I've had tendonitis for two years on the top of the right foot.  I went to my physiotherapist and all she did was give me some exercises.  I'd like some hard facts on how to make it disappear forever.  The left foot is fine, and I just wish the right foot was the same.
