Tendonosis

I am 71 and fit. I had a right hip replacement in October 2016. All went well. Hip brilliant. Have a ll.7 mm leg length difference for which I wear raises in all my shoes. All went well for about a year then the tendon in my left hip hurt a lot at night and tendonosis was diagnosed. Had lots of physio and it has helped, but still limited as to what I can do and sleep. Cannot sleep on that side. No arthritis in that hip. Could be a bit of wear and tear of the tendon but could be because of walking differently with the leg length difference. The hip was playing up a little on the left before the op. Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone have any advice please? I am wondering if to go further into orthotics or think about someone who knows about back alignment.

HI MARGARET
I had my left hip replacement in APRIL 2018 , I too had a leg descrepancy , i wear heel raisers but suffer with severe back pain because i dont know the exact difference, my physio said 4cm but surgeon thought it may 1mm so its guesswork. However 5 months ago i started to get severe pain behind the knee and spreading upwards and downwards on my operated leg, it feels like i have pulled a tendon or something but its not going away and i am wondering if it could be tendonitis, they are sending me to a physio. Is this a common thing with a hip replacement or just coincidence?

Hi Margaret,
Have you thought of joining a pilates class? I find it helps with pain and stretching helps the body and alignment, also you will learn how to stretch correctly.

Yes, I am hoping to go back to Pilates in September. I have done yoga and Pilates for many years, but had to give it up with arthritic hip then the sore tendon. Hope it does not upset it. I should have said that I have had two injections for the tendonosis, which did nothing!

Hi there
I had the right hip done in 2017 it was not so easy but things got better, then I started to notice a leg difference at about 1cm (my guess) I too put raisers in my shoes and when it was time to do my left hip I discussed it with my surgeon and she promised to try to fix it during this ( May 2019) surgery. Imagine my surprise when after the surgery she informed me that there was no problem with difference in leg length, but it was my pelvis which was tilted, Because of the tilt (lateral) I had felt as if there was a leg difference when there was not. I am starting physio on Tuesday not only for the surgery abut also with pelvic stabilization to correct this. I have done some research and it seems to be quite common, it gives me back pain because of the uneven gait. I hope to have it corrected soon, I am so tired of limping.

.276 of an inch is 7mm. not a big leg lenghth difference. considering before surgery the damage from osteo can effect leg length a lot more.
my leg length was not great before surgery and after three hip replacement still off. i dont seem to have any walking or pain issues .
i had tendinosis for a few months after surgeries it takes longer for tendons to heal vs the fractured greator totancher and loose femeral implant that was removed and replaced with a 11" IMPLANT. myndoctor said tendonosis is a collagen issue from over use or surgeries.
take it easy use anti inflams helps and ice to control the swelling. hope your better soon.
