Yes.  I had anterior THR on my right hip in July, 2016.  Afterwards, SEVERE groin pain.  Tried PT, two cortisone injections.  Had the arthroscopic Psoas tendon release in 11/17.  No more groin pain, but I do continue to have nagging joint pain.  Dr. says that the implant may not be healing into the bone.  Checking again in August.  May need a THR revision.

Oh, Remo - I'm sorry to hear you still have pain in joint. It sounds like your psoas surgery was successful though. Did you have full release or partial? Could you share what doctor did the surgery and where? I'm sort of desperate for someone who does successful release.. as are many of us here. Crossing fingers you don't need another THR.

Had a partial. Done arthroscopically at U of MD by Dr. Farshad Adib. He’s great!

Remo - thanks for that information! Maryland isn't very far from me, and I'll follow up to learn more about him. Thank you.

Oh. I just looked him up a few places for reviews.  I'm very glad you had good results. He has more written negatives than I'm used to seeing, but you never know with surgeons, sometimes they are very good but have personalities that not everyone likes. Whatever the case, I'm very happy for your results!.

      Hi Terry

all my THR and releases have been on the right side as well, how many times can you have releases done ive had 2 and 2 days ago had cortisone injection for the same on going pain, but they don't help.

Wow, this is an interesting tidbit I just read from you  Terry. No one has warned me that the psoas could shred, and now that makes me wonder, since I've had this problem for many years, what damage may be happening. yikes.

I would love to hear opinions and advise on this. I had both my hips replaced 8 weeks apart in late 2009/early 2010. My left is like a natural hip...no problem. I have some impingment of the tendon in my right. I can't bend forward and lift right knee at same time....like putting pants on. I can't do repetitive leg lifts or knee lifts so that rules out aerobic exercise classes. I can walk and walk distances. But sitting in a car for long periods of time, falling asleep in a certain position or over exertion can bring about that deep full groin ache on the right side. I can do 45 minutes on an eliptical, bike, stretch in a modified straddle and do yoga. I also work hard in the yard. I carried 60 40lb bags of mulch up the hill in my backyard one by one last year. So I'm not really impacted but I'm rarely pain free. I did have 2 of the guided injections but really to no avail. So I was scheduled for release surgery. My doctor only does open surgery with a complete cut. I had read about arthroscopic but he didn't do that. So I also read about the importance of the psoas tendon and how it connects the upper body to the lower and also wondered how it would impact the mechanics of lifting my leg. All this led to my cancelling of the surgery. So...do you think that my condition with my existing abilities is worth pursuing surgety? Btw, with open surgery he said recovery would be 6 months!! What???

So should I pursue arthroscopic or just live with it. It's not debilitating but it's there 80% of the time.

my opinion for what it’s worth is if your pain is not that bad and you are at 80% and can do the exercises that you are doing, I would leave well enough alone.  I can’t even carry groceries without feeling the after affects.  I can only sometimes walk about 1 mile slowly, I can’t do any garden maintainance without regret and i often cannot sit on some chairs without significant throbbing after a few minutes.

Hi Susan I’ve had the open surgery with the complete cut of the psoas. I’m 9 months post op. I had no alternative really as the original hip replacement was a failure; cup protruding & rubbing on my psoas resulting in bursitis. I couldn’t walk it was pretty painful. I’m not 100% but am making slow but steady progress. Leg still a bit heavy eg putting into my shorts is a bit tricky still. Still have a sort of a burning sensation in my groin but that is also incrementally improving. I walk for an hour most days & lots of step ups.

My surgeon said 12 months & I would have a full recovery.  I’m happy I can walk. Lunges cause me pain afterwards but I can squat with some effort on my part.

I had no option but to get the psoas fully released; there was literally no way I could function as I was. It boils down to the trust you have in your surgeon.

      Wishing you all the best.

Hi Inhal, i wanted to update everyone...I had arthroscopic partial psoas release on Feb 21..roughly almost 4 months ago....i have no groin pain...i swim, have started back to gym..and recently went trampoline jumpiing with my grandson....have some soreness but that will go away...only thing i have left is ischial tuberosity (my sitz bone) pain, but i believe i had that before hip surgery, its from pinched nerve by sitz bone....it comes and goes...there is a nerve block i can have done but i am putting that off .

I can almost...put my shorts on standing up...almost..not quite...one thing i dont do alot of is walking...but i am working on changing that....

i believe partial arthroscopic is the only way to go...hope this has helped someone...best...Chrissy

Hi Chrissy - I'm so happy for you! How wonderful to see someone have a great outcome, especially on this forum where so many of us have not had good luck. could you tell us what surgeon you went to? And where?  Also, thank you for the good deatils you provided about your condition.

Hi Maysie, i still get the updates, its horribly sad...i still think its due to anterior hip replacement on the hanna table.

I have no groin pain now, its been 5 months since surgery by Dr. James Ross in Deerfield Beach, FL...he does a fractional and it has to be done at the lesser trocanter or it won't be effective.  I have lost some function but they say it will take up to 9 months to regain everything...

I swim laps 4 times a week and gym 2 xs so you do have to work it ...there is mile soreness after laps but does go away..

So there is hope!!  Action wise I am like a 40 yr old (im 64), so pretty good...I still have a mild butt pain but that is stem from lumbar.

That's another point, everyone on here so have a lumbar MRI because its a nerve that goes by hip through groin to back of leg...I believe many people have lumbar issues and may not have necessarily needed life changing hip replacement when a simple nerve block would have done the trick.

      Hope this has helped!
