Psoas release friends - I want to share some of the links I've found, as I'm sure you're all doing a lot of research too. Here are 2 medical journal articles I find useful:.

Maysie, did you have your tendon released? how did it go? I wanted to check on your progress since I am having mine done Dec 18?? I would rather forgo one Christmas and be out of pain forever than continue on this way.

Dr did say recup is 3 to 6 months but full year for you to realize full benefits.

      Thank  you

cortisone injections unless they are done correctly with dye and under flouroscopy won't do anything...The fact that you have had 2 psoas release should ring alarms for you..Please get 2nd opinon, Either psoas release wasn't done correctly or something else is wrong..

      Keep us posted...Best of Luck

I realize I am replying to an old post but possibly my experience may prove helpful to someone.

I had a cortisone injection under flouroscopy with dye and would like to caution anyone who suffers from hypertension, that steroids can significantly affect blood pressure.

My bp is usually about 120 over 75. After the injection, it shot up to 180 over 105 it stayed high for about ten days. The injection did bring complete relief for exactly two days but within a week it was back to the same level as before.

I was told by my ortho. surgeon that steroid injections help about 50% of patients, but has little or no affect on the other 50% .

I will not be having another one.

Don't know about South Florida, but the Optim group is highly rated and has surgeons who do arthroscopic tendon surgery. I believe that there is one in Jacksonville Fla. A Dr Hope was recommended to me but I chose an Optim surgeon closer to me. I live in Ga.

Five days out and walking unassisted.

Still suffering from the botched surgery on my other hip 18 months ago.

Hi everyone,I'm 7mths gone and I can't lift my leg at all.im in agony but I can walk still .surgeon wants to give me an ultrasound and injection but they dont always work do they? I've never had one. He said the tendon is rubbing on my new hip,he must be magic to tell that through flesh without an x ray! It was a physio that damaged it forcing me to do what the hospital said not to. I'm so scared I'll be in pain for ever. It's as sore as my hip was. When I have to lift it.i also have cerebral palsy on my other leg so my walking is not helping any.i have no balance and still on crutches for fear of falling.this up was meant to help get my life back. But it hasn't. Amy advice please. I'm really down as I have other health issues too and don't need this.

The ultrasound guided injection is both therapeutic and diagnostic. I had one a few months ago to confirm psoas impingement. With the dye and ultrasound, they can put the injection in a specific tendon or area and if it provides relief, they know exactly what is causing you symptoms. In my case it was the psoas tendon. I was so nervous, but It really wasn't bad. They numb you up pretty good. There is slight pinching but it's very quick. The whole procedure took about 2 minutes. Keep a log of what symptoms it relieves after the injection. Your symptom log helps with a proper diagnosis.  I hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi Angela im over here in Australia im 5mths post op from my 5th THR/2 tendon releases and 2 dislocations.

yesterday i have a ultrasound guided injection cortisone after  it was done i couldn't get off the table for 30min due to a spasamed muscle down my thigh and when i did get up i couldn't take a step at all, till it settled.

they said they put enough cortisone in there and anaesthetic to last about 3 to 5 days and i should know if it has worked with in up to 10 days and i can tell you it doesn't work im still in pain today, all groin and tendon its just coming back.im not sure what to do next but it takes away all quality of life.cortisone is not a fix.just a delayed pain relief if it works.good luck

Hi Bobbie, Did you have the ultrasound injection? I had one it was pretty painful and only helped for two days. It did send my bp soaring from normal to dangerously high. It took several weeks to come back down.

Remember, depending where you live most insurance including Medicare will pay for at least one second opinion.

I do hope by now that you are doing better. Good luck.

Did the doctor release your tendon? What treatment was applied to your 3 tears in your iliopsoas. Has your groin pain gone away? I am 15 months ago and still in pain when I walk.

    Hi All-

Waiting to hear any updates of those who have had the release surgery. I am 47, active, almost 7 mos post op TLH, anterior. All symptoms as described above. I was referred out for 2nd opinion and Doc basically said he wants to do a "re-do (revision)" I meet him again on 2/6 and have A LOT more questions. Now, based on everything I've read here with the release or lengthening options I'm wondering if a total re-do (as horrible as that sounds) might be the way to go-- obviously a different surgeon. Boston area.

Also lots of mention here about discussions with an Attorney- anyone found one to take your case and are the moving forward?

      Hi Debbie

I’m almost 6 months post full hip revision, bone graft & screws & full psoas release i.e psoas fully cut.

I’m just turning the corner with my recovery. I would say I’m sitting at 75-80% recovered.

I can walk with no limp

I can squat 16kg with kettlebell

Leg press 25 kg to quite good range

      Deadlift 57 1/2 kg

Lying leg raises cause a twinge still

Lifting my leg by bending my knee is still tricky, it’s like my leg is heavy & doesn’t want to do what my brain tells it to.

My balance is way off, I’m really focusing on one legged body weight deadlifts

      I can lunge now

Still some tenderness in the side of my hip

Progress been incremental & gradual & slow. My surgeon assures me I will be 100% by the 12 month mark.

I have been diligent with my rehab & training as it’s my livelihood as a personal trainer. Regards ding the litigation; I have an ongoing case submitted to an  Australian body that regulates doctors. They have been painfully slow. I have a lawyer ready to fight my case as soon as they come back with their findings.

      The evidence is

      1. Cup protruding & hitting my psoas & causing continuous bursitis

      2. Original surgeon not fit to diagnose his error

      3. Surgeon who I went to for a second opinion immediately diagnosed the issue

      4. To have revision & psoas release to fix original surgeons stuff up within 12 months of original surgery clear evidence that surgery not done correctly in the first place.

      Hope this helps

      All the very best

      Inhal
