Hi everyone,

I have got a terrible history of anxiety. Currently taking Escitalopram 20 mg and mirtazapoine 15 mg. I have been taking these on and off. Been stupid. I have high triglycerides too and taking atorvastatin 10.

My depression anxiety is there since 20 years but there were normal periods too and recurring in every 5 years.

But since last 6 years and so , it has been almost recurring every year. Even last three years been recurring in every 6/8 months.

I used to get nightmare, bad dreams, scarry, used to cry during sleep. I used to sweat too. These were not every night though.

Last 3 years been terribly bad.

I have been having scary nightmares every night, then I cry during sleep with fear, then I get too much sweating.

This one year it has even worsened.

I get nightmares 3/4 times every night.

I cry with too much fear during sleep.

I get too much of sweating.

The medication I have been taking is almost been regular since last 2 years.

I am in too much stress please help.

Thank yo

I suggest you go back to your doctor, book a double appointment to explain these issues.  I have fear of not sleeping which causes night time palpitations on waking assuming I get to sleep.  I very much emphasise with you. After 25 years of this I’m now taking amitriptilene 10 mg or 20 mg every night which is helping and I have a hypnotherapist. GPs can now make urgent referrals to sleep clinics and sleep psychiatrists.  They don’t like doing this as there is a charge from their clinical commissioning group. However if you go and stress the total urgency of your problem and document it to them somehow how can the GP ignore?

    Hello Surya,

I'm sorry for your distress. However, I do think you need to discuss all your symptoms with the doctor who prescribed the medications for you.

Both the medications you're taking have heavy sweating, particularly at night, as side-effects in many people. However, it's important not to stop the medication without medical supervision, to avoid even more serious withdrawal effects.

I note you say: "Been stupid". I'm not sure what you mean by this. Do you perhaps mean you've been taking your meds irregularly? Both are antidepressants and both can produce withdrawal effects if they're stopped too rapidly, and especially if they're stopped and started at intervals. Then later on you say you've been on the meds regularly. Do you want to tell us what you mean by "been stupid" or is that too personal?

You might be able to reduce the sweating and the nightmares by staying cooler at night. I've always had nightmares and a dream-related sleep disorder (neither associated with psychiatric illness or medication) and I find I can reduce the attacks significantly by sleeping in a cool bedroom under very light covers. You might want to try this.

However, the bottom line is that you must go back to the doctor who prescribed the meds and talk about all this. This is a patient forum. We're all here to offer moral support and a bit of practical advice, but there are no medical experts here. Please go and see your doctor again.

      Hi lily65668,

Thank you so much for your valuable suggestions.

Yes , I stopped medicines in the past when I felt better without consulting a Dr. Then after some months it reappeared and worse symptoms.

That's what I call it "being stupid".

I am paying the prince at the moment.

I get terrible intrusive thoughts , all sorts of negative thoughts in the world possible, then the night terrible nightmares.

The sweating gets so bad that i find myself completely drenched , bed sheet, duvets. It becomes almost impossible to fall asleep again in that as everything is drenched. I use a towel to dry sweats friom the entire body, turn the duvets other way round, change the position of bed.

It occurs so often , may be 3/5 tjmes every night.

How can I wish for a day and night to happen.

      So dreadful.

      Many thanks

      Much appreciated

surya I am rupa . you should not do on and off while taking these medicines. google for surviving antidepressants. In that site you will find so many people using same medication . you will find how to stabilize on drugs. you will find how to taper slowly. Your dreams are due to you were off those tablets some time. you should taper very slowly but should not stop suddenly.

      Thank you Rupa,

It has been horrendous. Day time, I get all sorts of negative intrusive thoughts. And night, terrible nightmares, too much sweating.

I wish I don't get day and nights.

Yes I would certainly visit the Dr. The irregular use of such medicines taking its toll on me.
