Terrible pain 8day after gall bladder removal help me!

Posted , 9 users are following.

So I am a healthy 26 year old woman, I have three kids. Four months ago after I had my youngest I was so sick all the time! Doctors determined it was my gall bladder, they removed it and now I'm in pain so bad.  I literally can not eat without being right near a toilet. My stomach is killing me. I called the doctors office and they told me it was totally normal. Has anyone had this problem? after my doctor removed my gall bladder he said it was one of the worst ones he'd ever seen and he was surprised it had not caused me way more problems. I am so miserable

It's just every single time I eat I am sick and my stomach cramps so bad. I haven't eaten much since my surgery because of it. If I eat anything, even a cracker my stomach will cramp for atleast an hour.  I ate some noodle soup earlier and I was sick for about two hours. I told the nurse at the doctors office and she just said yup that's normal. My doctor never told me I'd have pain like this. He told me after surgery that I would have a new life because my gall bladder was so bad and I'd be like a new person.

      Not.

ok nat I hade my gallbladder removed 7 weeks ago tomorrow and I was very very ill ,mine has been going on for 3 years as I was so scared of the surgery and wasn’t convinced it was just my gallbladder.

i ended up with an infected puss filled gallbladder that was gangrenous and my surgeon said I had hours to days to live but he still managed to get the monster out key hole.

he also told me that I can eat anything I want and so far so good this seems to be the case, but I’ve ventured into fatty foods very slowly but am eating fatty foods agag all be it slowly , I have put a stone 14 pounds in weight bac on which I’m happy about as I lost so much weight so fast in the end I lost 4 stone 9 pounds that’s how I’ll i was .

i was having very bad attacks in the end lasting 20 to 30 hours every other day in agony upper tummy chest and back pain .

now 8 days after surgery I was in a fair bit of pain and was very nauseated most of the time with pretty bad pain I my right upper quadrant , felt like I was being stabbed like a sharp pulling ripping pain but it has slowly reduced and reduced as has the nausea, I still get a bit of it here and their and the pain in the right upper quadrant is also still their but has reduced massively, and jus now these last few days literally I have started to feel some normality and some confidence is returning.

walk as much as you can daily and keep building yr distance up .you will kw when to stop or slow down as the pain level will inform you .thats what I have found .

theirs a lot of people on here with lots of good info to offer and as many with as much bad info .

      i found Lynda .

to gave the best info personally.

i was very worried for the first 5 weeks but I do just think it’s all part of the healing process and as Lynda has said to many people here ,the healing inside takes a long time !

and I think she is correct.

hope this helps ease your worries somewhat.

oh I’m a 53 year old man who had a 2.3 cm stone stuck in the neck ,cystic duct for 3 years and a 2.2 in the gallbladder, it’s been a hell of a 3 years.

i wish you well in your recovery and nat. You will recover.

Nat I’m sorry to hear about your pain, I’m waiting to get mine out and that’s exactly how I feel right now. I surely hope you feel better soon. Did they give you a diet?

My doctor didn't give me an diet at all. He basically said just eat whatever you think you can. I've had three c sections and I also had a hernia repaired at the same time I had my gallbladder removed. Before I had it removed I was literally nauseous all the time, I had been to the ER about six times and it was terrible. I can't even tell you how different it feels now. For the first time in a year I haven't been nauseous! I just hope this pain is normal with surgery since it's still so soon!

They should have sent you home with some sort of diet, that’s terrible. I’ve seen many different ones online. I do believe there are certain things you need to avoid, but everyone is different.

The nausea is the worst for sure, I’m Happy to hear that’s better for you. Have you tried ensure, or one of those types of protein drinks? Those bother me a bit but not as much as eating.

Grateful I just wish I would have known so I could have prepared better! Thank you so much!

Terry, I can’t imagine a Dr not giving you instructions on your post-op diet. I was on liquids for 2 days and no fat. Without a gallbladder the fat has no place to go bit through your liver into your intestines. It’s been 7 weeks since my surgery which had so many stones they had come out and were in central duct. Most pain is gone but everything I eat is no fat or very low fat. Low fat graham crackers with low fat, low sugar are a staple. If you go on WebMD and lookup “Gallbladder Diet” that will help. Drink plenty of water, iced tea (I drink unsweetened with lemon or lime) and black coffee. You can have any fruit or vegetables except avocado, grilled or roasted white meat chicken, extra lean pork or non fatty fish. Nothing fried. My problem is no matter what I eat I have explosive diarrhea within an hour. My internist gave me a prescription for Librax which helps sometimes.  Going to see gastrointestinal dr I 10 days. I would go today if she could see me. I’ve lost 10 lbs since surgery and had lost almost 20 because I was so sick before. I can’t go on like this much longer.
