Terrible physical symptoms (breathing) is this actually anxiety? Please read.

Since May of this year I've had awful physical symptoms of anxiety ever since I had a horrible panic attack (or, at least that's what they said it was) after getting benadryl pushed through an IV.

I can't take it anymore. Especially because I'm sure it isn't just anxiety no matter what I try to convince myself.

The worst is the breathing thing. It isn't like normal trouble breathing. It's like if I can NEVER take in a full breath, and I also tend to feel like I won't breathe in by myself if I don't make myself. It's literally every second of every day, day in and day out. I can't take in a full breath. Other symptoms I can put off as anxiety for the most part, I may make a separate post about them later, but right now I'm sick and tired of the breathing troubles I've been having. It's been months. Why aren't they gone if its just anxiety?

Please help me. Is it really anxiety if it never lets up? And if it is, do you know how to make it all stop?

it still happens because your still always focused on it. i totally get you i to had this sort of thing 24/7 and it got worse. you feel like you cant enough fresh air and your constantly holding your breath even though your not aware your doing it.

its one of the most scary anxiety symptoms.

you can breathe because your still here it just feels like you cant.

I have been dealing with the same thing for two months now. Its as if I'm not filling my lungs up, therefore I'm always short of breath. Mine is unfortunately accompanied by a constant chest pressure and tightness. I have had a full cardiac and lung work up, which have both come back normal. My doctor keeps saying blah blah blah, anxiety, blah blah blah. Anxiety can bring on terrible physical symptoms. Like you said, I can deal with the other ones. This is debilitating. I hope you find answers. Hell, I hope we all do.

I used to have this in the past and I can tell you there is a solution. It's indeed connected with high levels of chronic stress. While you are stress out your breathing pattern changes, which tends to become a habit, even when you're having periods of less stress.

You can check this easily by laying your hand on your belly button when you're laying down: does it move up and down while you're breathing? Or does mainly your upper chest move up and down? If so you are experiencing 'high breathing", which leads to a constant feeling of dissatisfaction and the urge to sigh.

I went to a breathing therapist and she taught me how to relax and let go of physical tension, and how to restore a natural breathing pattern.

The main exercises where 'pursed lips breathing' and Trauma Release Exercises. There is a book on it, you might want to look into it. You don't need to be suffering from trauma for it to be beneficial. It's really effective and solves the root cause instead of suppressing your feelings with pills.

    Hi

I've had that feeling of not being able to take in enough air. It led me to out patients ECG and echocardiogram which turned out fine, it was all anxiety. The more we dwell on it the worse we make it. Try to focus on something like watching a comedy show on tv, you will find that your breathing will return to normal cos your mind is off it.☺
