Terrible stomach cramps.

I've been off fluoxetine now for 2 weeks after tapering off it for around 2 months, I was only on it for 4 months to begin with so not to long. Last few days I have been experiencing really, really, really bad stomach cramps, I'm in agony at times. I'm getting on with it and it does come and go but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I'm pretty sure it's just a withdrawal side effects which will improve with time but has anyone got any tips on how to cope or knowledge on how long these pains lasted for them?

Withdrawals probably. Tapering off I've learned very slow. 3-5% a month or even 2 to see how you do. Alot of variables. How many mgs, Only on for 4 months.

I was on 20mg a day before dropping down to 10mg for a month and then 5mg in the final month, I had felt fine for these two months with very few issues. I do think they are just withdrawal and I am hoping they will pass sooner rather later. Just got to stay positive and not panic. How long would you say I can expecty these symptoms will last for?

I have been tapering off Prozac for some time now - perhaps a month or two, and I had some terrible problems with stomach cramping a while back. There was a point where I was just writhing in agony one evening. I went on a strict juice fast for a couple of days, and started taking a lot of ginger which has helped. Still having some problems, lots of heartburn, and my stomach is distended, but the pain is gone.

Funny, it didn't occur to me that it could have been a withdrawal syptom until I read your post.

That was me too one night, it woke me up and i was just rolling around in pain, I pray it doesn't come back. I can deal with the nausea but not the pain. Can I ask how you took your ginger? Did you just add it to your meals? Yeah believe it or not it is quite a common side effect of withdrawal. How long have you been on prozac? If you have been taking it for a while it could explain why you are still experiencing issues. I myself have only been on it for around 4 months so I'm hoping it will pass fairly soon with a bit of luck.

I have been taking it for about 30 years - so a long time. To be honest, I have had so many digestive issues over the years, I'm not sure if it's the Prozac or me. I don't know how long this detox period will take, but hopefully not too long, and then I will know better what I'm dealing with.

I was juicing the ginger with apples - it's delicious! - but now, I just cut and peel a piece and chew it.

Yes, I have heard this is a side effect when withdrawing. Can I ask why you are stopping it? I just starting taking it. Thank you!

I was going through a very rough time health wise and convinced myself i was seriously ill which led to my depression and anxiety. Luckily I am a long way away from that time in my life and me and my doctor feel I am ready to live without it. I just have to get on with the side effects for the time being.

It's interesting that when you (meaning ME) reach out, you find a lot of other people with the same issues. I wish you the best. X0
