Terrified - Melanoma

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have just visited the skin specialist and I’ve left absolutely terrified. He checked my whole body and said all my moles looked fine, he then looked at a mole behind my ear that I’ve had since I was a child and told me I should have it removed immediately as it was showing signs of melanoma. I am set to have it removed in three days but I am absolutely petrified. What if it comes back cancerous? I am only 25 and I am so scared. Has anyone else had similar moles to mine? Did they end up being benign/non cancerous?image

Hi. I know this is a terrifying time for you. Just the word melanoma puts a chill up your spine but try to remember that if caught early enough melanoma is over 90% curable. There are some irregular edges around the mole but just wait & see.Sometimes a mole can look wrong but be totally fine but get it removed for peace of mind if anything else. I had a mole behind my ear a couple of years ago that had regular edges but the mole showed some irregularity in the mole itself but it came back fine. Try not to get so worked up until you get results. (easier said than done i know). Good luck.

      hi Michelle,

thank you so much for your reply. Yesterday was a nightmare, all i could think of was the fact that I could have cancer. You are exactly right, not all odd looking moles turn out to be melanoma. I think I'm just hanging on to that idea for now. I think its just the fact that I have to wait 3 days to have it removed and then another couple to get results - ahhh! wish I could find out faster.

i'll let you know how I go! thanks again for calming my nerves

Hi there. You're welcome. The human mind is a powerful thing & once it clings onto a thought, particulary one like this it wont let go. In future though always remember this for future reference.... A.... stands for asymmetric. B....stands for border. C....stands for colour. D.... stands for diameter. E...stands for evolving. These are the things to watch for when checking moles. Yes, please let me know how you get on.

Hi - I just wanted to see how this turned out for you? I am currently stressing about pretty much everything..including a mole I've had since a child, that hasn't changed but all of a sudden is scaring me...

Hope everything went well for you
