terrified that i may have diabeties

i am 18 years old (F) and my height and weight are 61 inch & 97 lbs.

today, I started stressing about diabeties again as i have a dry mouth. I had this occasionally for the past few years at night time (i never drink enough water), but it's been worst these past two days. when i drink water, it still feels dry. i also got braces yesterday (idk if that makes a difference).

but the main thing that freaks me out is that i got reminded of my blood test results from the past. i got a blood test (metabolic) panel done when i was 11, and everything was great. then in 2019, i got another one done and my glucose levels were 76. however, i got another one done in 2020 and my glucose levels were 140. i know that 140 is considered normal if you ate that day, but i can't remember if i actually fasted that day or not. i randomly remembered this today, and now i am so scared i have/had diabeties for the past two years, and damage has been done. i don't have other symptoms like frequent urination or anything, but i suffer from really bad anxiety and health anxiety and can't stop freaking out about this.

also idk if it has anything to do with this, but i had a dipstick test done bc i thought i had a uti (i didn't end up having it tho) and it showed there were no traces of ketones or glucose.

I convinced myself I had a terminal illness the other day just to go to the doctor and find out it was my anxiety. I think a lot of the time with anxiety it's hard to focus on breathing so possibly since your stress levels are up this may be causing your breathing to increase causing a dry mouth. Anxiety can really mess with your head and it's almost weird how it works. Not sure if this will help at all but thank you for sharing your story.

i’m sorry you are scared about this Jane. However, it sounds like you may be overthinking this somewhat.

if you really want to stop worrying about it, go get another blood test after you have fasted. That way you will know one way or the other. It’s worse to sit around and think about something over and over and drive yourself crazy. I’d rather just go get the test. Chances are you don’t have diabetes. and even if you did, it’s a very manageable condition. I know plenty of people who have it and they are doing just fine.

A dry mouth is caused by so many different things. I have a dry mouth all the time and I don’t have diabetes. you are taking one thing and instead of learning all the different situations that cause dry mouth, you are skipping that and going right to diabetes.

you most likely did not fast when you had the result of 140. Just go get another test so you can relax when you find out you don’t have it.

it takes a long time for diabetes to do damage. Two years is a short amount of time and that’s even if you have it. Which I doubt.

you’re going to be OK! ❤
