    Hello, H.

    I did have the post withdrawn - I couldn't read the replies without getting terribly upset. The kind ones broke my heart but there were a couple which I thought weren't particularly kind - and then I just decided I was putting people in an impossible situation. Especially since all of you have done so much to improve things between Jim and myself, by changing my attitude.

    He is quite resigned to what is coming - indeed, I am quite sure he is unaware of how close it is.

    Oh, I just wish a heart attack or stroke would take him quickly. He is not the sort of man who likes to be coddled. Quite often, over the years, he mentions some pain or symptom and when I ask how long he's had it, he usually says " Oh, about three months."

    I would really like him to have all the fluid drained from his abdomen, for comfort's sake - and have described the procedure to him. He is wavering about this. I have promised him that it's not a ruse to get him to accept treatment. He REALLY doesn't want any - but he's fairly interested in getting the fluid drained. He looks like he's expecting quads.

    You, personally, have helped me so much. Everyone has, in their own way.

      Yes, my hubby had ascites drained. About 20 litres of it. Hope Jim gets this done. Lots of love and prayers for you both.

      Yeah, that's gotta be a lot more comfortable for him. Keeping my fingers crossed that he goes for it.

      I'm sure you can all figure out why he doesn't want to go to hospital for anything - no booze, no cigarettes.

      At least in the UK they give benzos to people with AUD to stop withdrawals. They're really good about that.

      But the fluid is very uncomfortable - I will talk to our doctor about how to arrange it.
