I want to share my experience, that how confusing and stupid this disease that plays more with your mind less than your body. I had all the HSV 2 herpes symptoms  ..blisters 10 days back and  I went to the doctor right away, she gave me a 5 days dosage  for the initital outbreak and ask me to do the Igp HSV blood test . Today i went to meet her for the test results and she told me the results are negative, but it will take 3 months to get the actual results. I amd just 27 and i hope some vaccines comes up within few years i dont want to live with this dirty disease. I am still not able to accept it that it happened with me.

How were you previously diagnosed and with which type? By swab, and positive for Type 2? If so, then this negative IgG just means that you were recently infected and have yet to produce detectable antibodies. Did you do the IgG for Type 1 as well? Anyway, for certain results at 3 months, once you finish your meds, stay off them to allow your body to make antibodies, if you do in fact have herpes.

Blisters/bumps aren't always herpes and a visual diagnosis can be wrong, hence my question about whether you were swabbed at the time of your symptoms.

Thanks for the info FelisCatus, now I understand why my body is not making HSV antibodies as I have been on meds on and off for about 12 months.  I keep getting the outbreaks so I had to be on meds most of last year.  I stopped taking meds late late last year and already had two really bad outbreaks last month and again this month and it's just the beginning of the year.  I had several outbreaks last year, I am so sick of taking tabs & being sick all teh time as well,  I get really bad abdo pain, headache and vulva pain every single day.  I wish my body would make antibodies to fight this nasty virus.  I am 64 and used to be very healthy until I caught this in Nov'14.  I am getting my blood test done this saturday and will wait & see if my antibodies are positive this time.

You will probably have detectable antibodies by now, having been completely off the meds for a few months, but IgG antibodies don't necessarily help to contain outbreaks, unfortunately, since it is only one aspect of the immune system, which is very complex. Whether herpes is kept in check or not depends on many different aspects of the immune system, and IgG does not seem to be the most important, but is the easiest for testing purposes. I have read research papers on the immune response to HSV and it is quite complicated to understand!

Another thing about the meds. If your outbreaks are frequent, you should be on them daily, not on and off. Some people have outbreaks when they come off the meds, although that's usually after a period of taking them. You can also consider the maximum dosage, if you are not already on it. Or switching. If you are on avyclovir, try valacyclovir. A lot of people find it better.

Then it could be for sure. Why didn't you get swab tested at the time? Perfect opportunity to confirm.

Because i feel my doctor  was an idiot, she was young and inexperienced. She was not able to handle my basic queries

How frustrating! I have read so many cases of doctors refusing to swab or dismissing the idea as unnecessary, which is just silly. If a patient wants it done and/or has good reason to be swabbed, they should just do it. Herpes is one of those things where you need confirmation at the time of symptoms, otherwise you need to wait for the IgG test window.
