Testing high for hhv6 4 times and told it just shows I have had.

I have been here before by usualy just lerking! But I have a qustion with this positive HHV6 test. I have had it "tested" 4 different times in the last 9 years. It comes back very high each time. Then each doctor tells me that this only shows that I have had the virus and that it is no longer active. My last doctor said that it "might" be active but there is no way to know for sure. Why do they keep testing for this and then have it mean nothing? I as very tired of having no answers at all. I have had the extreme fatige since I got a flu shot 9 years ago. I do not test positive for epstein barre or lyme. Can any of you tell me if it is possible to have it or not? I am so confused.

It depends on which hhv6 test you had done. The presence of igm antibodies shows that you have an active infection. Igg antibodies do not show that you have an active infection but if they are elevated they suggest that you might have an active infection. You cannot tell for sure though. There are other more complicated tests that can do to tell you for sure if you have an active infection. It seems like doctors don't do them very much and I don't understand why. HHV 6 dna in plasma and tissue samples can show for sure if you have an active infection. If you do have an active infection you can be treated with valycte but you need to be monitored while on it. I don't want to try the medication unless the tests prove that I have an active infection because the drug can cause cancer and other problems. A subset of the ME population can and have benefited from valcyte. I am going to ask my ME specialist more about getting testing because like you I only had the test done that cannot prove whether or not you have an active infection. If you go to the HHV 6 foundation website it has the information on the testing.

I am still waiting to get a copy of my last test but I do have the last ones.

      HSV 2-Specific Ab, Igg <0.91

      Ferritin, Serum 394

      HHV6 Igg Antibodies  20.20

EBV Av VCA, Igm  221.0  EBV Ab VCA, Igm  <36

I have no idea what this is saying except that their high. I hope you can give me a translation!

      Thank you so much.

Sorry I don't know how to interpret your hhv6 results because I don't know what type of test it was. If you go to the hhv6 foundation website you might be able to tell. You also said that you didn't test positive for ebv but I think that your test results show that you are positive.
