Testogel, making me feel unwell?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I'm a month in to using 5mg of Testogel daily, and I believe it is causing me to feel unwell mentally. Is it the Testogel itself, as in, would a different form of supplement be any better?

I'm 55, my level should be .225, but when I was first tested, it was only .17!

Hi Rodney. I'm currently on the Nebido Testosterone injection, but I used to be on the gel. I stopped the gel because it irritated my skin. However I didn't have any mental well-being issues whilst I was on it, in fact quite the opposite. Over the course of a few months I found I was a lot less nervy, a lot more positive in my outlook on life. In my case I had a pituitary tumour removed, so I also take Hydrocortisone, and getting the balance of hormones right can be tricky, you don't mention if you are on any other medication? I would mention this to your doctor or consultant as there may be something else going on.

    Cheers, Carl

Hi Rodney I just joined the forum and saw your message.

I have a testicle missing from testicular cancer. Was diagnosed withe secondary hypogonadism after MRI was done. Was told by the endochrinologist the MRI and dynamic testing showed my hypothalamus is the cause of my low testosterone. I suffer with lightheadedness brought on by stress.

I had started testogel (1% gel) and then went onto tostran gel (2%) gel. I felt okay on testogel but not too good on Tostran gel. I tried Testim and felt great on it. I was told 5mg can be a low dose to start and needs to be titrated up or down to get your testosterone level up. I would say you are a poor absorber like me. I had better levels up to 17nmol/l of testosterone when taking 60-70mg of gel (easily titrated if you get on the tostran gel).

I have completed stopped the gel and gone back to my normal levels of 9 nmol/l of testosterone as I was finding gel was leaving me with headache when waking that would not pass until I take more gel.

I was told by another endo that the gel causes havoc with your endochrine system such as with adrenals and ability to handle stress and I believe a lot of people who take the gel when they say they dont feel great its because of the disruption the gel causes on other hormones such as adrenal hormones etc.

I would see if you can get your ACTH/CRH hormones checked to see if you have any deficiency caused by the testosterone.

I am on a testosterone deficiency site forums in the uk (Testosterone Deficiency Centre).

Please check it out. It is a great forum for support on all things Male Hormones and testosterone. You'll get plenty of advice on that forum

    Kind Regards
