Sincere gratitude to each of you brave, strong, caring women for sharing your stories and advice! I also had an open myomectomy and scoured the internet for a long time trying to find information from fellow patients and details on what to expect post-op. This forum has helped me so much Thank you! Would like to 'pay it forward' by sharing my own experience. Not sure if anyone is still following here though or if the forum is still active as it looks like there has not been any activity in quite some time. Blessings and healing to all who have come through this painful procedure. You are stronger than you know!

Hi! I need help! I'm 47 and considering an open myomectomy but terrified for various reasons, risks of losing organs, long recovery time and time off work being single etc. I had an 8cm fibroid that wasn't really bothering me a few years ago, but then I hit perimenopause and my progesterone nose-dived and the fibroid started having growth spurts. Now it's about 11cm and I can feel it pressing on my bladder and pushing out my stomach. Plus per my OBGYN there's no way to tell when I'll really be in full menopause so it could continue to grow for several years and get even bigger. I've debated embolization but not sure it will work now that's it's bigger and also nervous about the plastic beads they leave in your artery. I also have a dermoid cyst that's not bothering me but my OBGYN would want to remove if I had surgery and that just puts my organs more at risk. I feel like most OBGYNs really treat you like, if you cant have kids, your organs are useless and don't matter. Vs men who can produce kids in their 70s!!! I thought Acessa would be the miracle I wanted but it's very expensive, not covered by my insurance, and I've heard several concerning stories from women with large fibroids about it not working and being misled by doctors while the fibroid grew post procedure. So confused and depressed 😦

hi
i was 47 when diagnosed with a fibroid which grew to 11cm. i have had UFE which shrunk it to 7 .5 then an open myomectomy which was done in 201. i dont regret either but i did not have a cyst so did not have that to fear. my biggest fear was that it would be converted into a Total Hysteretomy but was assured would only happen if i was bleeding to death. unfortunately my tummy still looks like i am 5 months pregnant and after looking online found out i can have Physio to correct that so starting that in June. if it fails though i am stuck with it unless i have a tummy tuck.
my periods were less often but heavy when they happened but nothing i could not cope with. regarding my other organs i have not had any other problems and i have now entered peri menopause. can the cyst not be treated with medication? i agree totally with what you said they cant wait to remove organs i have been abused by more than one doctor for refusing hysterectomy but its not their body. whatever you decide good luck

Hi, thanks so much for sharing! So did you do the myomectomy because the UFE didn't shrink the fibroid enough? Also was your stomach big from the fibroid? And when did you start peri? I think I've started it already at prob 45 😦 After your myomectomy how soon do you think you could have worked on a laptop at home? I am def wanting to keep all my organs!!

hi
yes i did the Myomectomy due to the fibroid not shrinking. the fibroid caused the big tummy . it happened after i had a endo ablation the gyncologist did it i think to force me into a Hysterectomy. a few months.after it my periods got worse and i could not leave the house the periods were not that bad before it another reason i had the UFE. i only started peri in January 2019. after the myomectomy i was off work for 5 weeks but if i was working from home would have been about 3 weeks.

Hi thanks Patricia. 3 weeks? Yikes I can't take that much time off work. Could you not work because you were in too much pain? Or just too tired? If I were tired I would force myself to work.
