The changing physical symptoms

Hey there

I'm just looking for some support and to see if others notice a similar pattern in their anxiety battles. I suppose my anxiety is mainly centred around health, although other things in my life can set me off which in turn results in the physical symptoms that turn into health anxiety.

I find that as soon as I have come to terms with one symptoms and almost accepted it as anxiety, and not life threatening, that another, unrelated one pops up from no where just to continue the process. It's as if my anxiety can disguise itself as so many different things and it makes it even harder to over come.

I am getting there, slowly. I'm back on my anti depressants and just trying to push through but it seems I'll have a good day or two and then it just hits me again. Usually during the night, I always find the night time hardest to deal with. Less distractions I suppose.

Do any of you feel the same about your anxiety, how do you cope with the changing physical symptoms and do you have any useful tips for when it strikes, especially during the night.

Thanks for the support.

I have been experiencing a new symptom that is very bothersome. My jaws feels restless all the time and never feels relaxed. This keeps causing annoying dull pain in lower jaws and headaches sometimes. Another feeling I have been having in my head, usually in the morning to mid-day, is this rushed/tense/buzzed feeling going down both sides of my head. It is very hard to explain the sensation is gives me, but it is very annoying and almost feels like I could go into a seizure or stroke....even though I have no idea what either feel like because I have never had one. I wish there was a vitamin or supplement that could cure this, but I am worried it is just anxiety.

Does anyone else know the feeling I am describing? It not really a tension headache, but more of a state of feeling rushed and panic?

Exactly how I feel! 100% sometimes I used to think its from Fluoxetine when I used to take it . But I think it was a masked panic attach from using ADs. I do not know man I also feel a horrible head pressure and now it happens when I take my ADs. Before it was when I was not taking anything. Now it happens 30-60 min after I take my dose of Effexor which I am currently on!

I am on a relatively low dose and still happens and sometimes I wake up with this too!

Only thing that will calm it down is breathing and it does elevate it a little or benzos which I hate to now take regularly as if it was not for them I would be an absoulte mess!

I also have restless legs. Specially if I am not into any meds , I get them very bad and no way of calming my legs specially at night. My base of anxiety is health anxiety and fear of death! Its a horrible thing to live with! I really really feel for all of you here... I just hope the best for all of us.

hi Gillian definately empathise with you as i am the same. my wheels have just fallen off again and my new ( but actually not new ) symptoms have me convinced of illness. mine is at night too when i try to relax all hell breaks loose. im finding going back to everyday meditation and some self care. Also writing down fact versus fiction. ive had chronic stress for so long and then things go well then it falls over , so i find lack of confidence an issue. practice the breathing during the day with a music you love. then it can be your go to at night.

    Hi Gillian,

I hope you take some comfort in my reply. I could have written your post myself. Just when I feel relief over one health concern, I feel something else in my body that will lead to another. It's scary and draining. I'm not on medication but am doing CBT. I just wish I could cure my mind and go back to being the happy, carefree person I once was.

Hi everyone, I am new to this site but not new at all to the world of anxiety. I'm finally relieved that I have found other people that are going through the same as me and that it isn't just me going crazy!!

I have started with a new symptom that I've never had yesterday that's really worrying me and wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing.

I've had a stressful few days health wise and yesterday morning all of a sudden I started with what I can only describe as the feeling of sunburn all over my body. Mainly on my arms and legs but I have felt it on my back, chest and face too. it's worrying me because its been there constantly now since yesterday morning.

My skin looks absolutely fine but its like an intense burning sensation and a little prickly. I have spoke to my GP today as I have slightly high blood pressure and he has said the symptoms are most likely due to anxiety, but all my anxiety will let me think is "surely not, it's something more serious". I can't concentrate on anything else which I'm sure is probably making it ten times worse! please help, has anyone else experienced this??

hi. this is the same symptom i have now which started a few days ago. it started in my chest making me think it was my acid reflux but tablets didnt work nor did gaviscon and then it started in my back and my arms so i knew then it was anxiety. even though i know this, it doesnt stop the symptoms. i have suffered with health anxiety for 20 years and am on sertraline. covid has brought on this new episode of anxiety and panic attacks and it seems my sertraline is not working. i have a banging headache and my heart is pounding. its so nice to hear im not alone with these symptoms as it is scary.

    Hi Gillian (and all)

as other have said I feel like some of these posts could have been written my me.

my GAD has really manifested into Health Anxiety (although always had it from time to time) during this pandemic.

currently got such a feeling of pressure and tension in my head ranging from at top of my neck, or sometimes on the sides of my head and i've had a feeling of my skin being hot behind my ear or ears too which is bizarre!? anyone?

sometimes I can have chest pain, palpations, stomach issues, tense back etc etc...so frustrating but keep pushing forward people, we can get through this!

omg! i am doing so badly at the moment... i can't tell you how great it is to read what everyone is saying… I do have one symptom though I haven’t seen mention that is driving me insane and that is the constant dizziness and lightheadedness... sometimes I do not even need to move and the room will just go whoo hoo for a split second and i feel like i can not walk straight like am going to the left (which am not). like the rest of you I’ve got the numbness tingling pain, nausea, lack of appetite, headaches, just found out my jaw is dislocated so TMJ so constant pain for my jaw... burning eyes and tightness in the right eye.... so fecking depressing.... i keep looking at my daughter and wanting to cry incase she loses her mummy!

    Hi Gillian,

I completely feel for you and understand your suffering. I myself have experienced many physical symptoms including the heart racing/flutter, amongst tons of other symptoms. Its got to the point on two different occasions when i've actually called an ambulance for myself, let alone the countless visits to A&E. Your really not alone and I feel for anyone suffering with any form of anxiety, but i can defiantly sympathise when it comes to 'Health Anxiety' as this is my day struggle.

I've found that stressing to your GP and getting tests done (I.E - bloods, ECG's etc) can really calm the scary thoughts and doubts I had. I mean I would never want to waste anyones time and truly very greatful for the NHS and facilities our country offers here in the UK, but if your GP is not listening then go to A&E and they will give you a full MOT.

Other tips is to stay away from caffeine, alcohol, nicotine and try learn mediation. There are also tons of books out there that you can read or use Audible for that help with mindfulness, mediation, relaxation. what ever works, just remember your not alone.

Hey, I can totally relate especially since I'm kind of struggling with my depression having a new stressful job. I jus took a leave of absence from work today and I feel all aches and pains in my joints that are really bothering me. And my stomach is constantly upset even more than usually. I think with coming to a realization of problems, my physical pain is just getting worse. But luckily I can managed it. Also glad I'm not in the hospital cause when I saw a Dr. he had me on 5 different meds and it made me even more depressed.

Nights are really hard for me cause my thoughts are constantly racing in my head and make it hard to sleep. I sometimes sleep with a diffuser that has scented oils which is nice. Also sometimes i use youtube and play sounds of the beach. I do use the tv but that keeps me up even more.

    Hope you get well.
