the enhanced recovery programme

I was given the drinks for this recovery program - at my pre op i was given two sachets one to be mixed with a glass of water the night before op and drank the other to have as soon as you get up on the morning of surgery

Can be taken upto 2 hours before op, I would be interested to know how many other ladies have also had the sachets.

I am on day 11 feel so well

Hi, yes I had this, but I have to say I don't think it made much difference, I was inhospial for 4 days and was quite ill post op for 48 hours.... I was sick, had low BP .. I couldn't get out of bed for 2 days... I'm 7 weeks post op now and have a bit of a laugh about the enhanced  recovery programme as I felt bloomin awful!!

I've heard about this, what exactly is in these sachets, out of interest. I was lucky, I haven't needed any kind of medication except I was so paranoid about 'the' bowels not working afterwards that I did take milds laxatives for a while but that's all.

    Glad you are recovering well.

Thanks, I don't know what I expected as I had only heard the phrase 'Enhanced Recovery', I had no idea what it entailed.

    Hi Judy

I have been given 6 protein drinks to take 2 a day 3 days before my surgery so that will be Mon,Tue, and Weds then 3 sachets of powder called pre load 2 to be mixed with water the night before and 1 to be taken the morning of op befor 6am. They say it is to help with recovery.

    Hi Judy,

i have also got these sachets.I have to take 2 before 9.30pm the night before and 1 before 6.00am on the day of the op.I got told it helps with the recovery.Did you have your booklet that you had to tick everything off as you completed like your walks and sitting in the chair for 2 hrs etc?If you did were the nurses thorough in making sure. It was done?I am a bit confused about thet times ofnil by mouth and. What time you have to stop eating and drinking by as it various from the booklet and the admissions letter. The admissions part where I start is now closed for the weekend.I have now finished work today and I have to be at the hospital at 7.15am and I have been told that I am 5th on the list.To me that sounds like an early afternoon op but the paperwork states that if it is a morning op you are nil by mouth from 6am which I have been told I am.I am all in a pickle now.I will be going round in circles all weekend with worry.Hope I feel as well as you on day 11-Well done.

    Take care

    Teresa

I never heard of this before, but I haven't had my preop assessment yet. How do you get selected for it? I have already been told I will be in hospital about 4 days for an abdominal hysterectomy with vertical incision.

    Hi Judy,

I had to have 6 small bottles of fluid, 4 the night before the op and 2 the morning of the op.

So pleased to hear your doing well, i am on day 9 and feel really well. I get my results a week on Monday! x

It's just as worrying waiting for the results as knowing you have to have the op but lets look on the brightside.

      Good luck Judy x
