The hot weather and high pollen count is affecting me. Does is affect you?

Hi Everyone,

I have noticed that during the spells of hot weather and the high pollen count, I have had more of a struggle with my breathing and I feel light headed. Has anyone else felt this way and what do you do to help it please?

I love watching progs. like Air Ambulance ER etc., and I 've noticed that when they attend patients with breathing problems like Asthma attacks, they mention giving them Magnesium. As I have all the symptoms of a lack thereof which include headaches, weakness, dizziness etc. I checked with my Pharmacist to see if it was o.k. to take this supplement with my other meds. which he said it was. I have only been taking it for ten days so it's too early to say if it's working but I wondered if any of you have tried this.

I really would love to hear from you.

Many thanks and blessings to you.

Deanne

HI DEANNE, YOU MUST BE VERY OBSERVANT & I AM SO IMPRESSED. I'LL ADMIT TO ENJOYING THOSE PROGRAMMES TOO BUT MORE FOR THE HUMAN SPIRIT AND HADN'T THOUGHT ABOUT TREATMENTS. HOWEVER I NOW REALIZE THERES AN EDUCATION INVOLVED THAT I SHOULD BE RECOGNIZING. I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING ABOUT MAGNESIUM BUT JUST HAD TO REPLY TO YOU BECAUSE IT WAS SO INTERESTING TO READ YOUR POST THAT I FELT IT WARRANTED A RESPONSE. I NOW INTEND TO DO SOME RESEARCH INTO THIS AS IT IS SOMETHING WE SHOULD ALL BE AWARE OF WITH THIS CONDITION & I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT IT BEFORE TODAY. THANK YOU DEANNE, I WILL BE FOLLOWING YOUR POSTS TO SEE OTHER INTERESTING MESSAGES YOU GIVE ON HERE. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF & HOPE TO HEAR HOW WELL YOURE DOING ON MAGNESIUM. THANKS AGAIN.

    Hi Deanne

Sorry to hear you are struggling too Yes I am really struggling at the moment, heat wave here and very high pollen count, even with oxygen I can only maintain a blood oxygen level of 90. Do you check yours with an oximeter, low lever could explain your light headedness. I use magnesium too, but mainly to help with the muscle cramps. High doses of Vitamin D (doctor prescribed) is also very useful for any one with serious lung disease. I have an air purifier machine on the go at the moment trying to get as much pollen and dust out of the air as I can. Lucky me I live in very pure mountain air so no pollution as such .

I am also a serious fan of all the late night reality programmes like Air ambulance, Helicopter ER as well as the police ones.

Hi deanne, yes I have the same symptoms. They started in April and slowly got worse over the months. I can hardly walk across the room. High humidity here in the south is making breathing worse too. I am in stage 2 emphysema but sometimes I feel like stage 4! I get a crazy eradict heart beat too. I took magnesium for about a year but I didn't notice any change. Hopefully when cool, pollen free weather comes we'll get better. Take care!

i have a FV1 reading of just 42, however i've never had shortness of breath, which is why i didnt even know i had a problem until i had a routine check up and my oxygen reading of 90 lead to a spirometry test. i was already taking magnesium because years ago i read most people didnt get enough from food so i started taking 200 mg tablet, along with the 100 mg i get in a daily multiple vitamin. once i heard i had COPD i also started taking a CoQ10 tablet. Now, like i said, i never had shortness of breath before & now 2 years later, i still dont, so i cant point to the magnesium or the CoQ10 or the oxygen im on, but i do know i feel great.

    Hello,

I've posted this before, but it bears repeating, wright down your questions, inquiries, symptoms, etc. and take them with you when you visit your medical professionals. All to often we get rushed through our medical appointments and later regret not asking about things like magnesium.

I don't know about magnesium, but I have heard that Vitamin D could he helpful for us with COPD. As for me "chronic obstructive" is one of my daily battles. I discovered a reasonably priced over the counter generic alternative to the more widely known Mucinex, it's called Guaifenesin and it comes in 400mg pills that last 4 hours. They can be found online or at places like Costco and can be purchased in bulk if you wish. Ask your Dr. or Medical Professional about it. It acts to dry up and slow down the phlegm that plagues many of us.

As for pollen, I try to avoid the stuff in the springtime when it is at it's worst. I find that a controlled environment (Temp./Humidity/air quality) indoors where I can control things works best for me.

Additionally, I use use a nebuliser and a rescue inhaler as needed. I also try to eat a balanced diet and exercise as best that I can. My COPD condition has not improved, but I have managed to not get any worse. I suppose that I and others are maintaining our current levels by being proactive and not taking chances in weather that could disagree with my health.

Another thing, I maintain a pneumonia vaccination and I get an annual Flu shot every August (as early as I can) to protect myself. That and good health habits like washing my hands /with soap help to reduce the risk of getting sick from those unseen health hazzards.

Last, visit your Dr./Drs. regularly and be sure to remember your written down questions/comments for them.

    ALL THE BEST!

THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU LOVELY PEOPLE! You have given me great comfort to know I'm not alone although I do wish you didn't have to suffer also. I get very scared of any adverse changes. I do have an oximeter and I seem to maintain a level of between 93 and 95 which is good as is yours Reglois. Anything below 88 is naughty apparently. Like you dixie I can hardly walk across a room and it's not nice is it? Larry, I don't have a problem with phlegm and I don't cough much thankfully but as I am on one steroid per day, I'm very careful about avoiding germs. By choice I'm a bit of a recluse so that's not a problem for me. I couldn't go out and socialize anyway, let alone get to the surgery but luckily the people I need come to me. georgyo, thank you so much for your kind comments and I'm glad you also enjoy those programmes . I am constantly amazed by the love and caring of those medics and what Police Officers have to put up with too but I just picked up on the magnesium thing by chance.

Love and best wishes to all of you and THANK YOU again.

    Deanne
