The hours after a BM are hell - need advice

Posted , 3 users are following.

i dealt with an awful fissure for 5 months in 2019. somehow i healed it. lots of miralax stool softners, not eating much, etc. anyway, its back. i see the doc on tuesday.

if i have a BM after like noon, i do not have much hope for getting a good nights sleep because it throbs for 8-12 hours post BM. my last few BMs have been extraordinarily easy and smooth. maybe almost too smooth, but they certainly do not hurt. the hours after are pure hell.

i am bent over an ottoman in massive discomfort and nothing i have tried has worked. lodocaine and nifedipine, sitz baths, coconut oil.

how can i get relief? also because i have limited my food intake so much i only have a BM about 3x a week. and im still not seeing any healing. if anything things are getting worse.

please help.

I suffered with a fissure for 10 years. A procto used to electrocauterize the hemorrhoids in the area of the fissure to provide some relief. I don't think they do the electro procedure anymore. That procedure only provided temporary relief.

I was on metamucil daily (I still take this), but nogo. It was excruciating. Nothing helped - sitz baths, creams, nothing. It felt hard like the muscle in the area was cramping and wouldn't let up.

I went back to the same procto and he wasn't available and had to see an older colleague of his. The guy examined me and exacerbated the fissure during the exam, but immediately told me I needed surgery. He was 100% correct. Had the surgery and it healed fairly quickly. I expected the first bm after the procedure was going to be tough. Nope, not bad really.

I was mad that this other Dr thought he was treating me, but in fact he prolonged the torture.

My last piece of advice - be careful. Drs can hurt you. I think the surgeons have it more going on than these other specialists by a long shot.

    Good luck!

hello, was the surgery you got the LIS? I've been suffering from chronic anal fissure and although I wish to avoid surgery it looks like I might be headed that way.. are there any side effects to the surgery?
