The left half of my sweetie's diaphragm is paralyzed also shehas severe emphysema. What is this diaphragm thing?

2 weeks ago my partner was diagnosed with severe emphysema. An xray showed her diaphragm is not working either. She is now on continuous O2 and lots of enhalers and meds. She is in shock, miserable, and scared. No one has told her anything about her diaphragm except that they don't know what caused it. I think she is in a lot of trouble.

I don't think I could make it without her.

Hello Heron, So sorry for this awful shock, now you must research emphysema and be very strong for your partner. Do talk to her doctors who will explain what is happening and how you can help, OK ? Good Luck - -

Hi, Jay, Thanks for your reply.  I will.  I love her sooomuh.  At first she would not tal to me...denial and almost emotional shutdown.  I pressed her into a talk yesterday and it went really well, considering.  At least she opened up a little.
