the loo at night

Hi this is getting me down now up and down all night long up and down going to the loo. I am sure i read a comment about when the swelling goes down this slows down? I am having my last drink of the night earlier and earlier, I am a diabetic but under control. Is everybody else the same early days I am on day 12. Know this is a delicate subject for some people so apologies if so.

It really does get better. Looked back at my log and I was still on the 2 hour trips at night. Day 14 I recorded 3 trips at night. Day 18 showed an improvement as swelling was down. Hope this gives you some encouragement. I did not cut back on fluids. At day 33 still not sleeping through but a vast improvement and think I go to loo because I am awake. maybe tonight will be better for both of us

Am now day 5 and having the same problem together with the fact that I simply cannot lift the leg, so getting in and out of bed a major performance. Have rung the surgery this morning and Dr coming to have a look. I rang because of something else, just happened to mention it and she said someone should see it. A friend who has had a hip done was given water pills to reduce his swelling, which he says worked, so wait and see what Dr Says. Will let you know

    Hi Tracey,

I really suffered with this I think for the first two / maybe three weeks. I also never used to get much warning, seemed to go from okay to busting never anything in between. I blamed the blood thinners.

Hope you get better soon, it really is miserable.

Me to Jennifer.......bladder seems to think if I am in the right room that will do which I find very distressing. Without being sexist in any way it's a man's world when it comes to this!!! At least they don't have to haul themselves out of bed every time. An empty plastic milk bottle and they are fine........info courtesy of my son-in- law!!

And Tracey only once my bladder thought okay we are there. When you live alone clearing up a puddle not easy and not the thing you want to ask help for

I didn't have a catheter Ann, and that I found humiliating and mortifying in the extreme. If I ever have to do this again I will make sure I do

Don't cut back on your drinks during the day as you will get dehydrated and feel worse.  I only made a couple of trips to the loo during the night, but I think this is because I slept fairly well. I was on aspirin for the 6 weeks so if you are on blood thinners, this could be the cause of it.  However, although it is a nuisance at first, it will get better, especially when the swelling gets better.

I think it has more to with knowing how difficult it's going to be and thinking about it and once you think about it you have to go!
