THE next week

Hi, I'm having my THR next Tuesday and have just found out its the posterior approach (I was hoping for anterior) and it seems more difficult to recover from what I read. Any hippies out there who've had this offer any advice? Would rather hear from people that have had it done rather than articles. How long was stay in hospital? Thanks all!!

They reckon afterf six weeks there is no difference and that posterior is very tried and tested.

    Hi Kirsty,

As the others have said, the experience of the surgeon is probably the most important factor.

I had the posterior approach last July. It was very straight forward. I was on something called enhanced recovery. Up and walking the same day, out on day 2. My recovery was great, out and about on my crutches from day 3, and hardly any pain. I was lucky. I think a lot depends on your general health and fitness before the op.

I was back cycling from about week 8 I think.

I have a small scar, less than 4 inches. It all healed well, and now I pretty much forget? about my hip.

I wish you all the best, Judith

    Hi Kirsty

I had posterior RTHR posterior approach 9 weeks ago. was discharged from hospital the day after surgery. walking without stick indoors 2 weeks later and outside at 3 weeks. recovery was really quick. Make sure you do your pt exercises and everything should be fine.

    Hi Kirsty

Yes I had it done 6 months ago  and it has taken me 6 months to get anywhere near normal.I am 56 and it was initially hell.Sorry for being realistic...all I have left now is a leg length discrepancy so I wear shoe

insert and ongoing groin pain and still under surgeon. On the good side the nagging arthritic pain totally gone .Good luck x
