Hi, it was two years ago when i broke my leg and did my ankle in, it was a compound fracture, the leg seemed to heal okay with the aid of a metal plate, Ive had swelling from the leg break and on goung moderate pain, I would say 5 OUT OF 10.

The ankle was the main problem as it was a non-union, that also had to be plated and the recovery continues as it hasn't yet healed, despite having 250 of Exogen therapy.

My point and question today;the pain from the leg break is excruciating 10 OUT OF 10 it is back with a vengeance which means I'm consistently on the pain killers which means all the issues associated with taking pain killers are back,

Why after 2 years since the injury am I suffering with severe pain coming from leg?

I Expect to suffer pain from the ankle due to it not yet healed but i didn't expect the pain to the leg to come back as it has.

Could it have something to do with the metal?

can anybody shed light on a similar experience?

thanks

Hi Darren! I'm sorry it's been such a long haul for you. I'm new to all of this. I just had ORIF surgery a couple weeks ago to fix my trimalleolar fracture in my right ankle. I know you're way further in your recovery than I am, but from what people have been telling me is due to all the metal that I now have in my ankle we are more prone to the aches and pains! Do you think it could be because of the weather? Idk where you live but even my doctor told me that the winter months could really cause those aches and pains to intensify. I hope you feel better. I would say that if the pain doesn't subside to call your doctor. I know that sometimes plates and screws can move or become loose and that can be painful. There could also be other underlying issues and people actually have surgery to remove the hardware. Reach out to your doctor ! I wish you the best and hope you feel better!
