The pain is so intense!!!!

Just got diagnosed with Pleurisy about 2 weeks ago and was told to take advil 3x a day. this did not do anything. pain got worse. I then was referred to a pulmonologist. He put me on 40 mg of predisone a day for 4 days and gave me 30mg codeine pills for the pain. after 4 days on predisone I am still in intense pain! I am an active person and can't stand it anymore and am extremely depressed. I don't know if I should be staying in bed doing nothing as if that is possible with two children! The pain seems to be much worse at night and in the morning. Does anyone else seem to notice this. Sometimes the pain is managable and other times I just want to cry. Childbirth was definitely easier than this!!!

I hope this goes away soon. want to go on with my life and continue to exercise because I will gain so much weight otherwise. I'm so tired all the time from the codeine, but can't exist without it.

I have heard from others that this could last months and I could not handle that!!!

    I know it is very painful I too found the pain worse in the morning. I took 30mg codine x 2 and 400mg brufen for the pain, when it was at its worse they did nothing but as the Pleurisy improved they did help alot esp the brufen .I too was very depressed esp as i was ill over christmas :cry:

    I have been back to the docs today as i still have some pain but he said the Pleurisy has gone now & the pain in muscular.

    Hope u feel better soon ( it does take a while though )

    if pain is worste in the morning and at night it could be gaul stones as i have experienced that it is worste morning and night , usually after eating .

    Yes I know what you mean I just was diagnosed with pleurisy I thought I had a leak in my lung or a heart attack. After waiting 8 hours before going to the Er. Thinking the pain would go way! It just got worse! I couldnt move in the hospital couldnt talk they were so busy I waited there for a hour to be xray by then I counld'nt stand or move I waited 3 more hours before any pain meds. I have broke my hands ,arms, leg, ribs hit with ball bats countless bar fights But never felt pain like that im 24 year old man for the first time I can ever rember I cryed. They gave me 2 shots of morphine still I was in pain. I thought about the you kids with cancer who live with this every day Ill prey for you. I they gave my vicodin and ibuprfen to go home with the ibuprfen works better then anything I quit takeing the vicodin because all it does is make me tired

    So for all of you dealing with this and not takeing ibuprofen I would really give it a try It works well.
