My dr.told me 2day,I will need to have a hold hysterectomy...I wouldn’t feel so bad if I was not 40 and have not had kids yet, knowing my husband and I have been trying...so my utreus is so big it’s above my belly button and my fibrosis are 16 and they are massive with a lot of pain!! I really don’t want to get a hysterectomy...and I know my faith and prayer is the only thing that’s going to help me right now b/c having a baby is something every woman want to have especially her husband we lost one already and now to be told I can’t have any...I just lost of words right now and feeling so down!!!

Hi beverly5190 coincidentally my name is Beverly also. I was recently diagnosed with a large fibroid 11x 8. The ob told me that was going to be my option as well. I am also over 40 no kids. I will share my advice with you..there are options unless you have cancer on your fibroid. I had an appointment last week with a cancer Dr and we have to do an MRI to rule out cancer. If it's cancer it has to go but if not he referred us to a fertility specialist who we see after the MRI for options to remove but keep my fertility. They will do testing on me and my husband to make sure fertility is not an issue. So I would suggest that and they can tell you what surgery to go for. Now with that being said I have sat down with my husband and talked to family if we HAVE TO adopt we will. It's so hard to accept but God has a plan for us all even the ones who don't have parents. I am even entertaining the idea if we can have at least one biological child we may still adopt. Please research and ask your Dr lots and lots of questions. There is still hope for us! God bless!

Hi Beverly, where do you live? Please get a 2nd /3rd opinion until you will find a doctor skilled enough to save your uterus. It can be done I am sure but requires experiences and high level of skills and unfortunately not many doctors have them. There are lots of groups on facebook where you can hear other people's opinion and get advice. A group that has a list is called Endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts. Also when you say massive what size do you mean exactly? With open myomectomy they can remove very large fibroids. I know one lady who had 8 removed and the largest one was 13cm.

So don't gave up, there is always hope even if you are 40. If you have your uterus you can do IVF. And if you can afford go private.

If you are happy with their decision, then fair enough. And your fibroid is not that big, trust me. I have tread stories with a 20cm or larger even being taken out with an open myomectomy. All the best.

Hello Beverly, I can only say that just because a Dr says that to you it does not mean it is the only option. In my experience the word hysterectomy is thrown around freely as soon as you enter the Gynae office. It was the first thing said to me and I never had one. I am functioning now. All Drs are individuals and in some cases it is because they are not confident of their skills to do a myomectomy that they offer it. It is also for a surgeon... the easiest option to put an end to it all and prevent any re-occurence of anything and any reasons to return. That may sound cynical but there are lots of opinions out there.... just please be sure before you go ahead with anything you are sure and you have researched if there is any other option.... It may be right... it may not be. You need to be sure and happy it is the best and right thing for you.  Can you get a second opinon on any other alternative treatments?   Good luck xx

    Hi Beverley

Hysterectomy is an option not the only one. Gynocolgy will not tell you that if course.

I refused and had UFE 2 years ago did not fully work but shrink it enough for me to be able to have a Laprascopic Myomectomy. My advice demand to see a radiologist and ask them if you are eligable. For this. Mine shrunk from 11cm to 7.5cm. Gynocolgy told me it was not possible to do any surgery other than. A full total Hysterectomy. I refused.

It makes me annoyed that the Gynocology do this. They should be honest. But if they knew that every woman would refuse maybe they would start giving us Ladies more options.

    Good luck to you

Are you in the US? In the US the common treatment for fibroids in hysterectomy.

Keep searching for doctors that are skilled in myomectomies and not influenced by insurance to do hysterectomies instead.

    Don't give up!

Excellent! Also keep an eye out for gynaes who treat Jehovah's Witnesses cos they're very skilled and careful. I wish you the best.
