The Start Of My Journey

Posted , 1 user is following.

I'm due to have a colonoscopy tomorrow morning first thing. I have done a water only diet for the last 4 days so hopefully that will help with my next step. I'm will be starting my Moviprep at 13:00 today with the second dose at 21:00. It's my intention to try without sedation to see how it goes in the hope that if I do need it I can ask for it mid procedure.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences both good or otherwise, it's been a good help to me so far.

More later!

John

Well that's my first dose of Moviprep taken, it really is not unpleasant to drink, I found it completely unchallenging and easy first step, see what happens later LOL.

Well that really wasn't too bad, no stomach cramps, nothing alarming just very watery poo. All activity has now ceased and I'll continue to drink loads of water until the next prep at 21:00. This is the part I was dreading but thankfully this far it's all good.

I took the second dose of Moviprep with the same results as the first, nothing violent, nothing sudden but very watery output.

This morning I left at 06:00 for my appointment in Leeds at Livingcare for my Colonoscopy appt at 08:15.

The place was easy to find, convenient to park and is smart presentable facilities.

The nurse came to take my observations and explained in depth what was about to happen. I was then issued with some modesty shorts which were excellent with a flap at the back for obvious reasons. The consultant came and had an in depth conversation and further re-assured me all would be fine.

A short walk to the colonoscopy suite wearing my shorts, dressing gown and T shirt and after checking my details I was asked to lay on the bed on my left side raising my knees up to right angles, a sort of sitting position but laid on my left side. I was shown the monitor where I could watch the procedure, I was given the Entonox dispenser and the a final check from the consultant and he started.

First was a very brief finger examination and then the scope was inserted. I was told that I may feel discomfort round some of the corners and he warned me when it was about to happen. I was ready with the Entonox but when I was told to expect discomfort it was over before I took a breath. He went all the to the secum and just into the small bowel. The return journey then started with absolutely no discomfort at all. After 25 minutes it was all done and I was escorted back to the consulting room via a toilet.

The nurse came to offer me a drink which I declined, she then checked my obs, explained that my results were totally clear, no further action needed.

Back to the car after calling at Greggs for a steak bake and head for home.

I'm sure many people will fear this procedure which is potentially life saving. All I can say is my experience is there is nothing to fear, no embarrassment, no surprises, no real pain just a little discomfort like tummy ache. The Bowel prep I didnt find to be awful and it wasnt as alarming as some people have said. If youre referred for a Colonoscopy, go for it and dont worry.
