The Symptoms No One Ever Talks About

Hello to the Community.

I'm 46 years old and have been going through the change for close to a year now, I believe. I started with hot flashes and night sweats, breast tenderness, drier skin, etc. Hair is also thinning. These are things I can deal with and accept.

In April, I got Covid. Recoverd in 2 weeks. In June my family got a stomach bug. Recovered in 2 days. Then the insanity followed. I was overcome with itchiness and now have hives that are inducible and just show up. I tried a low histamine diet (started losing weight too quickly and it scared me) and went on antihistamines and Quertecin. Then the twitches/spasms started and I quietly freaked out because... You know what Google tells you.

I'm seeing an allergist this Thursday. I did make an appointment with a neurologist because I'm also becoming neurotic. I started taking magnesium two days ago and I think I see a slight improvement. My energy level is fine. I have no weakness, no pain. Just a rash and the twitches/spasms, which drives me nuts!

I can't believe peri goes on for years! Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much for responding, toria. I definitely will reach out. I'll let you know what the allergist/immunologist says. 😃

Update: I went to see my allergist today, who informed me that my allergies are histamine intolerance (HIT). This could be directly related to perimenopause, but there's no accurate way to determine that. The muscle twitching is also a part of the histamine excess, so I'm not dying. The bad news is this could take years to clear out. I have been told to increase my dosage of Allegra.

    Hello MM...

The menopausal trios are a force to be reckoned with! I have had COUNTLESS symptoms, and they were hormonal-related and due to the fact that I am... like tens of thousands of women in menopause! Menopause and hormonal imbalance are synonymous! Anything regarding our mental, physical and emotional health can go south, when we womenfolk embark on this relentless journey! CURRENTLY, I am DEEP in the post-menopausal throes, and it has been absolutely horrific! Since the inception of menopause, I have had a bout with hives twice. They came from out of nowhere! That being said, I used something sooooo... inexpensive and natural to bid them adieu... It is probably in your kitchen cabinet, pantry or just somewhere easily accessible in your humble abode. That being said, it is: Drum roll puhleeze: ACV in layman's terms: Apple Cider Vinegar! Use the brand that begins with the letters Br. Sorry, I didn't post the actual name of the ACV, I know that my post can be deleted for overtly pushing certain products... Throughout my trios, I have taken the ALL-NATUREL route to combat many of the symptoms, suffice it to say, many doctors are quick to prescribe meds to treat hormonal-imbalance, and it can be couter-productive. Also, I've read many articles regarding menopause, and according to these said articles, one cannot TREAT hormonal-imbalance with meds. Anyhoo, be well my menopausal sistah.

    2nd Update:

My hives are a thing of the past thanks to Xolair, as per my allergists recommendations. We are now in the process of spreading out the monthly shots. We're going for every 6 weeks, then 8, then 12, then never.

My twitches are still there, but they're light and random and I'm so busy with life that I hardly notice them. My hot flashes have ramped up and they're followed by shivers. I have pillow ear, gum pain - my gums are fine, and lingering aches when I work out hard. Migraines pop in every now and then. Some nights I sleep like a baby, full dreams and all, other nights, like last night...ugh.

I am taking Magnesium and Calcium in gummy form, and have amped up my potassium in my foods. Eating more kale, spinach, bananas, nuts, certain meats, and drinking oat milk and OJ. Am due for my annuals, but haven't followed suit since I've been working with an allergist. I work out almost every day, preferred workout: jogging. I will incorporate more weights too. I like Pilates as well.
