The truth about back surgery

Hi everyone,
i'm new to the forum
I'd love to get the opinions of people who have had back surgery, particularly for lower back pain that originated in a herniated disc. I'm 35 years of age and have been receiving injections and denervations for my lower back for a number of years now. My specialist has told me that my back will not heal itself. But also that she is not a fan of back surgery in general. I think it would b fair to say she is anti-back surgery. She says that the pain will only return after a few years of having the surgery so its not the answer.
Now, bear in mind, I am in no rush whatsoever to have surgery but in reality, at some time in the future (fingers crossed not in the next few years), when the injections work less and less (they already have started to work for shorter periods of times and my last denervation had no effect), I may be left with no other option.
So, have any of you guys had the surgery? What was your recovery time and pain post op like? Do you regret it or maybe its the best thing you ever did?
I'm still quite young and relatively healthy (although my back limits my mobility daily eg. cant sit, stand or walk for too long so haven't been to the cinema for ages...but hey theres netflix : )...I guess I finally understand this is a chronic condition and I'd like to be as well educated about the future and my health as possible. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
