The ups and downs of life

Hi all. Sorry but I haven’t been on the forum for a couple of months due to the ups and downs of life in general. Have been keeping up with the various discussions that have appeared so have not been completely out of it and hope that you are all coping well.
Since my cancer scare earlier in the year I have been one of the lucky ones and have been given the all clear, however my future daughter in law has recently found out that she may have cancer of part of the thyroid and will be having part of it removed this coming week so we all have our fingers crossed for her.
Since my last post on here I have had sun stroke whist away I a caravan, managed to break a root in my tooth that supported a small bridge so am in the middle of dental work, so have had to have the bridge removed along with the broken tooth and will be having a plate to replace it, (the quote for implants was out of this world).
I was also attacked by a cow with a young calf (I live on the New Forest and they, like the ponies are allowed to roam free) and tossed 8 to 10 feet across a gravel track. Sore arms, legs and bruising to my pelvis was the result.
A pred side effect can sometimes be the thinning of the skin which I suffer from, this scrapped a 4 inch by 2 inch gash on my elbow where the skin was thinnest and it has taken 6 weeks to heal over.
The good news for me is that finally I have managed to reduce my pills from 20mg a year ago down to 9.5mg today with very little problems so there is light at the end of the tunnel for me although it may still be a long way off.
Good luck to you all. Dave (tavidu)

For goodness sake - you don't do things by halves do you! You are the third person on the forums to have tooth/bridge problems and be offered gold-plated implants!
All the best to your future DIL and hope you heal up nicely.

Hi Dave - I wondered where you had got to! I thought perhaps you were so healthy at the moment that you had nothing to report. How wrong can somebody be?😏
Sorry you have been going through so much - it seems never ending!
Can’t help I’m afraid - just wanted to commiserate with you. Chin up! As you say “there is light at the end of the tunnel”.

One of my sisters had her throat cut ( as she puts it ) about twenty years ago and part of thyroid removed. She has to take thyroxin for life and has six monthly checks but all fine so far so hope the same for your DiL.
Even the sweetest cow can be dangerous when with a young calf. We treated our halter trained Jersey house cow with great caution at this time. I would think that very large warnings should be displayed.
Hope the reductions continue to go well and you heal soon.

Thank you for your post and thankfully the soreness in the elbow has almost gone and I am well on the mend.
It was lovely to read about your sister and it gives me hope for my DiL whom we love dearly, having recently been given the all clear myself (a patch on the lung that was put down to an ongoing chest infection) I know what she must be going thru as I was worried sick for three months and then the patch disappeared. Give my best wishes to your sister and I hope all continues to goes well. Best wishes, Dave (tavidu)

Well Lad, you and your family have had a time of it. Well when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Looks like you and yours have things in hand. Good for you all, keep thinking positive, try to put a smile.
Good going on the rest of your journey. Smiling on mine! 🙂

Always working and playing hard with a smile, Dave. Wife and I just spent the last two days putting new windows in our daughter's house. Finish the trim tomorrow. Then it will be a good job done for the winter. So working hard, then I will play hard for the winter. And they will pay me! 🙂
Now that is something to smile about! 🙂🙂

Good to be kept busy and bet your daughter is pleased to get the windows in. I have a very old caravan so that we can take the dog away with us but I noticed a damp spot in the bathroom bit so have taken the wallpaper off to check it out, wish I hadn't now as its bigger than I thought. Going to be a job for the winter so hopefully it will be done for next spring. All the very best and make sure they pay you for your hard work.

Four years on from finishing with Pred. and PMR my skin has toughened up tremendously. It didn't happen overnight, though. Still bruise easily but I put that down to age,

Well done for finishing the preds, loads of us live in hope of doing the same. This time last year I couldn't get down from 20 to 19 without a problem then suddenly a small drop was ok with no flares, now I have managed to get down to 9.5mg and hope to drop 0.5mg a month so fingers crossed. All the very best for the future.
