The use of cannabis in Pain Management

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have severe neuropathic pain due to Cervical vertebrae abnormalities. I self treat with cannabis which is extremely effective, it doesn't completely remove the pain, it just seems to take the agony out of it and makes it more bearable.

I have discussed its use with my pain management consultant, she understands that it works, but cannot prescribe it. I have no criminal record but am at risk now of prosecution for possessing an illegal substance. I would be grateful for any advice of Doctors prescribing cannabis in the Camden area of central London.

Suffering agonising & chronic pain myself, a narcotic using friend suggested to me to give it a try. I used to smoke a fair bit when I was a teenager so nothing new to me. Didn't feel any pain relief from Cannabis use what so ever. I know each person reacts differently to medication and substances, but Cannabis is far from being the wonder pain relief that the media makes it out to be.

One thing I do know is that the street price of the drug has come down massively from when I used to smoke it regularly, and a months suply can be had very cheaply now.

I have been suffering from chronic neuropathic pain for 20 years. Recently I was prescribed a number of drugs that were most effective in pain reduction but unfortunately I had to stop taking them due to side effects

    Drugs as follows:

    Lyrica. It was not effective

    Timonil. Most effective in x

Stopping pain but developed an allergic skin rash on legs

Cymbalta. Again most effective in stopping pain but I suffered from not being able to pass ruined and was forced to stop taking the drug

Gebapentin and Viepax together. Again this combination cussed urine arrest and had to stop

The frustrating thing is that all the drugs above we're most effective at pain reduction

Anyone with similar experiences welcome to comment

I have a referral for medical cannabis.

Hi I have tried all those drugs too, but like you unable to continue so I'm interested in your referral for medicinal cannabis as I have read about its successes online. Anything is worth a try eh ? Where are you hoping to get a referral from ? I live in Scotland and 13 years ago when I had my accident the pain consultant said then that  my best bet was for cannabis to be legalised !!!!, hope the referral came through and it's effective. Dear Lynne

I have not yet received cannabis but meanwhile tried some additional drugs including Nortylin bot developed an allergic rash. I went to see a specialist in allergies that informed me that many patients have multiple drg allergies and the effective way to deal with this is to start a new drug under hospital conditions where they desensitise me in an attempt to prevent negative reactions to the drug. They have a high success rate.

In addition I visited a neuroligist who specialises in chronic pain. Whilst he was not against medical cannabis he explained that just like the percocet I have ben taking for over three years my body will become tolerant to the cannabis in time and it will loose its effecacy

I an including a few links to some interesting sites that you might find of help:

I went through different drug medication combinations until finally this one worked just fine:

      Gabapentin, Tramadol and diclfenac.

The combo works great for degenerative join pain, Rheumatoid arthritis and generic arthritis. I'm confined to sleep and bed without the meds for pain management.

I am looking to wean off of the tramadol and replace with marijhuna. Lookingn for discussions on that.

I am also considering using Cannabis for pain management- I have sever and undiagnosed pains in my legs. Can anyone advise on the best way to do this- should I smoke it or eat it? And how long do I need to be using it before I can expect to see results? Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
