These Darn Heart Palpitations In Perimenopause Will Be The Undoing Of Me!!!!

Posted , 7 users are following.

Went to the ER again yesterday for abdominal pain. They didn't find anything but my huge enlarged uterus with fibroids. Waiting for my hysterectomy date. While I was at the ER there heart monitor picked up a my heart palpitations. They did another EKG which showed nothing wrong. Now going to make an appointment to go to cardiologist. I feel like all I do is go to doctors appointments these days. Have any of you ladies been to cardiologist for your heart palpitations? I am having so much intense panic and anxiety about going to cardiologist!! I'm afraid of what they might find. I just want peace of mind. I have not had peace of mind for about 6 weeks now. I thought all my peri symptoms were going away boy was I wrong. They come back with a vengeance.

Yes Debbie, I went to the ER in January because of chest pains and being extremely sick all that month. They admitted me overnight and monitored me, doing EKGs and wearing a holter monitor. Said was normal, but had me follow up with a cardiologist. I had a cardiac CTA, and it was normal. Just had follow up with cardiologist last week, and he said that scan was better than a stress test, and everything looked good. I am on blood pressure     meds for HBP, and I get the occasional chest pressure/pain, but I'm not overly worried. I have to say, I did go to the hospital twice more for chest pain after that visit. Things have calmed down. Don't worry yourself too much, I'm sure everything's ok, especially if they told you that.  Believe me, they wouldn't have discharged you if they suspected anything sinister, their main concern is the heart in the ER!

Thanks for your reply Debbie! I just hate the nerves that go with the palpatations. It really sets of my anxiety which gets the adrenaline going then my stomach gets upset. The whole cycle sets off my palpatations. I have had them for the last two days. I am trying to calm down.

I have seen a cardiologist twice for mines. Had EKG's and electrocardiograms and all was fine. They gave me betablockers in case they got bad. They said it was ectopic beats. Its common and they are not life threatening. Peri/menopausal women get it when the hormones drop and some women get it while having a hot flush. I hate it. Its scary when it happens.

I agree Jamie I hate it!! I think if I get a clean bill of health from cardiologist it might ease my mind some when the palpatations happen. So anxious right now. Stomach hurts and I can't eat. I keep losing weight and it is scaring me to death.

I went through the same thing. I lost 30+ pounds in months and it was falling off rapidly. I didn't have an appetite at all. It scared me so bad especially after reading that most women in peri gain weight, but after talking to the doctor and realizing that I was losing the weight because of me. I was so stressed and worried what was going on with me that I couldn't bring myself to eat. At times with gas and nausea I couldn't eat, then I changed my eating habits as to try not to trigger symptoms. So after looking at that no wonder the weight was falling off me. I'm sure it's nothing sinister. Once you get the clean bill from the cardiologist, you will feel much better about dealing with that symptom if or when it happens again. That is the only reason I can cope a little better than I was when it first started happening.

I have I was diagnosed with Wolf - Parkinson - White syndrome. Which is a heart defect electrical that causes palpitations.

It was a bit different than my usual palpitations at the time as it went on for hours at a rate of 225 beats per minute.

HRT has stopped them, I get the sensation that they are going to start sometimes but they no longer amount to actual palpitations.
