Thick and discouloured toe nail, is this a fungal infection?

Posted , 2 users are following.

After breaking a big toe about ten years ago, my partner has a thick discoloured toe nail along with a few extra thick nails that are extremely difficult to cut.  His little toe nail has also half liftted.

I’m just wondering if it’s something that he should get looked at.  He says he’s never really thought much about it but I am concerned that it is a fungal infection and if so I’m wondering how he’d go about treating it.  Also is it something that is infectious?  (This is a new relationship which is why I am only a decade after his problems started)...  looking forward to hearing your thoughts.  Thanks in advance.

Sounds like he should get it checked. Some peoples toenails just go like that with age. If it is fungal then it is not usually catching. Normally after an injury the nail can stay discoloured.
