Ive told her to sign up on this forum as seems to give you more answers than the doc does. would appreciate your own experiences as shes worried sick and frustrated with her docs.

hi Sarah. I've recently been diagnosed with Adenomyosis, which is a condition where the lining of the uterus grows into the muscle surrounding the uterus. I've always had very heavy periods & was on the mini pill to help but I'm now 51 & don't know if I've gone through the menopause or not so I came off the pill in May last year. I didn't have a period until December & it wasn't too bad. Heavy but only 5 days. Then I started bleeding on 17th Jan & didn't stop till 7th Feb. I was so heavy I was changing my tampons every 50 mins at one point. I managed to get a doctors appointment & he sent me for a scan which showed my womb was very thick & 'lumpy'. the lady who did my scan said it was adenomyosis. doctor has told me I can have the coil fitted or a hysterectomy as a last resort. he prescribe tranexamic acid tablets which were a god send but they made me feel so sick 😫 but they reduced the blood loss loads. I'm still deciding whether to gave the coil fitted. a friend of mine has it & she said it's very painful to fit bit no periods. I'm a bit worried about the painful part 😕.

Hi thanks for your reply maybe my friend has what you have. At the moment she has no answers as the results said they dont no but her lining is thickened hopeful a second scan end of march they will have a proper diagnosis for her. Yesterday she was in alot of pain but painkillers sorted it today no pain but bleeding again. I have the coil (the none hormonal one) since my 20s im 55 now and im well overdue to get it changed but left it as dont want to go through the pain of having it changed 😮 but least not had to worry about getting pregnant and no pill to remember to take

Some people's pain threshold is better than others. If I can avoid pain, I will but I will see how my next period is 🙏. I hope your friend gets on OK x
