Hello, I have the most excruciating pain in my thigh. I had a THR 2.5 years ago and have never experienced pain like this. Has this happened to anybody else? I feel sick with pain!!

Thanks

Did you over do anything?  Stem or muscle. If it continues, go to a ER

I would definitely get it checked out if you don't remember doing anything to aggravate it.

You absolutely need to check it out!  It could be a number of things or it could just be that you overdid it a tad, but look into it.....call the Doc

Hello, I had posterior THR right side. I am almost at 3 weeks. Week one was great, got home and went to PT and over did it at home. Day 8 my right leg swelled terribly, my thi and knee cap hurt beyond belief! They sent me for a ultra sound to make sure, I didn't have blood clot. That checked clear, so they said I had a hematoma and blood in my leg from overdoing it and internal bleeding. It took a week and its finally going down, lots of ice! stay on your back leg in the air. But call dr and make sure its not a blood clot!

Hello...!  I am going through the same thing...had THR 3 months ago and it was suggested per this blog by some very kind, knowledgeable patients that it could be an aggravated IT Band issue...it happens in 20% of the patients that have THR surgery...I can barely walk some days and ice is really the only thing that helps me.  I'm scheduled for my right hip surgery 9/28, however, I am thinking that this issue needs to be resolved first.  I am seeing my surgeon on Thursday and will let you know the outcome.  OR it could be stem pain?  If I were you, I would see your surgeon and go from there. Good Luck...

Hi Rachel, at so long post op, I would get it checked out. Could be it is muscular or maybe a nerve has got pinched. I had nerve damage post op and it was awful but was put on amitriptyline and it cured it.

Wow you should diffinately have some one check that out ......you are way past surgery!!  I would be worried for sure.  Don't mean to scare you but it's better to know what's going on than not!!

    Hi Rachel-

Could you be more specific with the location and type of t pain you are experiencing.  Is it in the front of the leg in the quadriceps or down the side of the leg?  If side is it inside or outside?  Does it feel like a muscle/nerve or bone?  Does it feel sharp/dull or pulsing? Is it achy or twinging and electric?  What have you done to try to alleviate the pain and what has seemed to help?  Does stretching or gentle rocking help?  Does ice relieve any of the pain?  Location and type might help lower the anxiety it causes especially if it is outside the area of surgery and prosthesis but would be best to see the doctor for a scan asap.

Good morning Rachel.  So sorry to hear you are having pain at this time.  I would think by now things would of settled in and most of you're healing was done. Did you have a fall?   Or have you been running or jogging?   Jumped?   The best thing is to get checked out to make sure nothing none wise has happened.   Please let us know how you are doing?  Hugs 🤗Linda

So last night I was in absolute agony and didn't tell the full story...... 9 weeks ago I had a natural birth to a little boy, which was fine and had no trauma to my operated hip what so ever. Since then, all of the bending, lifting, getting in position to breastfeed my thigh has progressively got more and more painful- last night it reached its peak and left me in agonising pain. I think that I may have trapped a nerve. I have made an appt with the Physio later today to see if he can realise it and I will keep you posted. Thank you all for your support, it is much appreciated.????

      Awwww.....  Congratulationssmile

Physical Therapy should help.  It sounds as though you just need to get the muscles tightened back up and the back/ hip in alignment.

      Best wishes!!

Congrats to your new baby 👶🏼 boy!! 🍾🎊🎈🎉   A trapped nerve is no fun.  I've been having issues with the femoral cutaneous nerve.  Pain and sensitivity to light touch.  It's been hard.  Wearing nothing but shorty shorts so nothing touches my thigh.  It's mainly on the outside of the thigh and a little on the top.  Best of luck to you!!  Hugs 🤗Linda

      Hi rachel,

maybe also set up an appointment with your surgeon - have an x-ray taken -- just to make sure all is still in place - Your body was still in healing mode when you got pregnant, so maybe muscles etc still need some time

Congratulations and welcome to the new baby ....

please let us know how you are getting on, okay --- love to see a picture of your baby boy

      big warm hug
