Thigh stiffness

Hi. I had an anterior THR on my righy in November 2016. I was diagnosed about 6 yrs ago and kept putting it off. I also need my left done this year. I had no problems after surgery. Did some PT and started having some groin pain and thigh stiffness. I'm 6 months post and this thigh stiffness started about 3 months ago. After sitting or laying I get up and my thighs now moth feel very tight. I'm wondering where did this come from. I'm very discouraged. Doc says I need more walking. After being up for a while it helps a lot but once I sit or lay down it's back to the same stiffness. I know I'm used to walking like I used to before surgery as I was in so much pain. Maybe that's part of it. But it is hard also because my leg is longer than the other and I have a pelvic tilt which I've had for many years. Has anyone experienced this thigh stiffness?

    Hi.

I'm 8 weeks post op from left thr. I had no problems but one leg is now slightly longer then the other which apparently will be corrected when I have the other hip done. But as I do not suffer any pain on that side it may. E some time before this happens.

However I do have thigh stiffness as you describe. I'm going to try and force myself to get out and do more walking and see if this helps. I am walking without a stick around the house but if so wslked any distance would need to use one. As you say I know have a pelvis tilt because ofleg length discrepancies .

Hi Lesley5362 yes doc said walk walk walk. It's hard to get on my treadmill as it seems since surgery I've become a bit lazy or something. I would rather lay around and relax. Too hot to walk outside whdeee I live too.

Another thing with the leg being longer it's hard to straighten it all the way wen walking. I have to force myself to do it as well I'm standing.

Well I hope we both are doing better soon and after our other hips are done.

      Thanks for your reply

Hi Dsilk05, I had my RTHR April 2015.  I experience the same stiffness or swollen feeling in my thigh.  It feels like my thigh is too big to bend at the knee.  My pelvis is broken due to a stress fracture that was not addressed.  My right leg is longer than  my left leg.  Doing any of the PT movements was such a disaster.  My hip joint stress fracture did not allow for me to control the movement of my right hip.  Specifically the ability to put full weight on my right leg.  I also enjoy walking.  Spicificaly taking my goats on walk-about on the mountain at the end of my valley.

Hi deborah18068. I can't believe you still have stiffness this long or did it just start?

I'm sorry to hear of your fracture. How did that happen? I really hope your doing better soon. I'm assuming your fracture is now healing or do you need surgery?

Dsilk05, the stiffness comes when I get up in the morning.  When I sit for a while then get up like in a car or at my desk.  Because my legs are at different lengths (right leg is longer) and I can't put weight on the right (replacement hip) leg I end up putting a lot of weight on the left leg.  Left leg gets cramps and my left foot begins to feel like a cement block.
