Things about overweight people that people fail to realize.

I used to be overweight when I was a teen. So that right there tells you about my genetics. And yet it seems that's still one thing people like to laugh about. They laugh whenever someone says they're overweight because of genetics. But it's true! When I was overweight, I didn't really eat any more than any of my leaner friends did at the time. I ate like they did. Only difference is they didn't gain weight and I did. That pretty much forced me to go to the gym and when I did, I lost it all  and got skinny, but even then I still had to watch what I ate cause I know my metabolism still sucked. Fast forward 12 years later and I'm still doing the same thing except i can eat a bit more now since I'm trying to put on some muscle. That's the thing tho, genetics and metabolism does indeed play a huge factor in your weight. It's by no means an excuse to not workout and eat healthy, but it still is a factor.

Thanks for sharing Phillip. I agree it can be tough, children can be so mean. When I started secondary school I had already started puberty and so coupled with the fact that I struggled socially to fit in, I found it very challenging, and the social isolation was what triggered my eating disorder. It is important to realise though that eating disorders are not about weight and wanting to be thin. They are a coping mechanism to deal with difficulties such as sociological and psychological issues. It's also important to recognise that obesity itself is not an eating disorder, although binge eating disorder is (where sufferers are often overweight and in some cases obese). Unlike obesity, someone with binge eating disorder will use this as a coping mechanism.

I hope you've managed to get some support.
