Things just arn't getting better

Hello,

I have posted a few times in the last weeks but thing's just don't seem to be getting any better.

This whole thing started 7 weeks ago with stomach pains which has now disappeared and this has taken over. I have such bad pains in my arms / legs for the past 3 weeks now and for the last week i have woken up every morning with pins and needles in my hands, and my arms feeling 'dead'.

This is really starting to worry me now. I have been to the doctors numerous times who have done some general bloods and everything has come back normal with them, so they just keep batting this off as anxiety, which i think it could be as i am a very anxious person but i need to know for certain that nothing is going on with my body, it feels like something is wrong with muscles or bones.

Hi Ryan, when we are anxious this can be carried through into our sleep. When anxious we tend to take shorter breaths and our muscles are very tense. When the oxygen doesn’t circulate we can get pins and needles through decrease in oxygen. The more we worry about it, the more we tend to focus on it. Try taking deep breaths for a few minutes before sleep. I’m also trying a technique where you tense all your muscles in turn, starting from your feet all the way to your head while breathing deeply. It only takes a few minutes and puts your focus onto something else. If it carries on you may need to talk to your doctor about doing a course of CBT, to help you rationalise your thought process.

      Hi Lynsey,

Its just a vicious cycle isn't it.

I have been back to the doctors this morning as it seems to be getting worse (probably just me making it worse by stressing about it more) he didn't seem concerned and was happy with the results of the other tests i have had done which have shown no warning signs for anything sinister going on. i have also had my eyes tested are they can pick up early signs of MS on the optic nerve and the optician said my eyes were very healthy.

The doctor has giving me 50mg sertraline to take for my anxiety but i always said to myself i didn't want to take any medication but i think i am going to have to as its affecting my life too much. i have also booked in for hypnotherapy next week, hopefully these combined will help.

Anxiety sucks, it’s consuming my life right now as mine has deteriorated massively in the last 12 months. Don’t get to the stage I’m at. The medication could help you to get through a difficult period but they do take at least two weeks before they start to work, so just be aware of that. It’s good that you’re getting help and I hope you start to feel better soon.

I hope you do too, thanks for replying.

Nice to talk to someone going through the same things.

Hey Ryan, have you noticed if you are sleeping on your arms? I only say that because I do the same thing pretty much every time I wake up my arm (whichever side I was laying on at the time) is DEAD!!! Like completely numb, dead weight, can't use it. I have to raise my arm above my heart and wiggle my fingers for a few minutes before I can use it again, really scary but I was told it was partly because I was cutting off the circulation but also compressing the nerve in my arm. It might be something as simple as that. I don't have a real solution for you other than don't sleep like that lol but I can only sleep certain ways so that is out of the question for me. Also...if you have these sensations and have anxiety it can and will increase the anxiety and in turn increase the sensations. As always, talk to your doctor about any questions and concerns but if you get treatment for the anxiety you might also notice some relief from these symptoms. Best of Luck!!!
