Think I might be perimenopausal

Morning all,

I'm new to this and hope you can help. I think I am possibly at some stage of perimenopause. I still have periods but they aren't as predictable as they have been. Also have had some dizziness and ringing in my ears. I've been very anxious and depressed for a while now, it's really come to a head in the last couple of months. My GP has prescribed Citalopram which I used years ago to treat depression- I've been on it a week now and it hasn't helped yet. I mentioned getting a blood test for my hormone levels but she was quite dismissive about this. Should I be asking to be prescribed HRT?

Hi, how old are you? if you're over 45 GPs generally wont test your hormone levels but will go on symptoms. If you want to trial HRT you can ask for it. I suggest completing a perimeno symptoms questionnaire and taking it with you when you see your GP (Google Greene Climacteric Scale). Best of luck

Hi there, firstly, how old are you? My peri symptoms started about 8 years ago (i am now 52) and i only bit the bullet and contacted my GP in february 2022 after the hot flushes and painful heavy periods where so bad almong with hightened anxiety/panic attacks, I too am on Citalopram but 20mg and been on that for about 6+ years. If you get no joy with your named GP ask to speak to another one maybe. I find some more helpful than others. Ask to try HRT.
