Have been on pred for 4-5 years now, only managing to be completely ' off' for 3 months after two years of reducing. I am currently on 6-5mg per day but yesterday had a bit of an argument with an escaping, driverless, freelander and got knocked hard. I have bruised ribs, leg etc where I got very briefly in between said car and a gate, but today seem very stiff with pains in other places as well! Can a 'hard knock' like this take longer to heal than it would if you didn't have pmr.....?? I'm concerned that this will put me back a bit..and hang around a while before I get back to my usual daily routine.

What a nasty experience!  Unfortunately your guess is probably correct.  However, knowing this, you already know that you have to be patient with yourself and take your time when you ready to do a bit of exercise.  Don't let things seize up by not using your muscles and joints, but do move carefully as you start to heal.  I'm sure there will be others along with some specific suggestions.  Get well soon! 💐

Hi Margaret,  I am sure your experience will set you back.  Even getting a jolt from missing a step for example can cause a set back.  Rest a bit, hot baths and gentle exercise like yoga might keep you moving .  Good luck.

yes, I daren't have a bath as I can't get out, but have been doing a three mile walk early in the morning, half a mile swim three times a week, and up to a 2 mile walk in afternoon. I still did the 3 mile walk this morning, but since then have done very little all day!!

Even if you were 100% healthy ( is that possible ? ) the shock of this would be enough to make you feel pretty grotty.

Your Pred' dose is relatively low but, having been on it for an extended period you may well have fragile skin. I know I did and, although I've now been zero Pred. for more than four years, it did not get back to normal toughness for at least eighteen months after stopping steroids. Whether other tissue is similarly affected, I do not know Also, we don't, as we get older, have the bounce back of the young, sadly.

Never used it myself but  arnica is highly recommended by many people to aid recovery of damaged tissue.

Best of luck and do be very kind to yourself.

Think a bit of rest is called for. I find a very long shower almost as good as a bath (I don't do baths either).

I'd definitely expect a dispute with a Freelander to cause a flare and take a while to get rid of the bumps and bruises. Apart from anything else, at this dose your adrenal function will be a bit on the wobbly side in response to the trauma and the shock of the incident.

Do tie your Freelander up better next time!!!!

Hello Eileen, I have recently been diagnosed with suspected PMR/GCA. I just want to thank you for the advise you have given. I have learned so much from you. You, in particular, have really helped me to get my head around this. Thank you.
