Thinking about quitting

Posted , 8 users are following.

I've done 5 weeks today, started on 25mg then gradually built up to 50mg over about three weeks. I don't feel any better, I'm tired all the time, no motivation, no energy etc. I am taking it for bad anxiety but now although there has been a little improvement in that I feel more depressed and low than before I started it. Is it worth giving it any longer? I'm also dreading withdrawal from this, I feel like I can't win.

I'd give it a bit more time I've just started sertraline I'm suffering from really bad anxiety from switching from citalopram but I'm on on day 4! I'd at least give it 8 weeks ?

Hey Cattia,  sorry you are going through this. I am going through the same as well.  Unfortunately when you increase it is like your timer resets,  so it can take 6-8 weeks from the time you increased.  It’s horrible to have to go through,  but hopefully things will turn around for you soon.  I am on day 22 @ 150mg and trying to hang in there as well.  If you are concerned,  I am sure it couldn’t hurt to give your doctor a call.  Maybe they can give you some reassurance as well.

Last time that I increased it took 6 weeks to start feeling better.

Give it about four weeks to work. Ask your doctor if you can increase your dosage between 100-200mg a day. I have bad anxiety and am on 100mg a day right now.

Thanks, I'm seeing my Dr today. I just can't stand this lethargy and lack of energy and motivation but I don't know how much of that is the drugs and how much is that I'm becoming depressed now that I'm somewhat less anxious. I just want to feel normal again and for day to day living to not be such a massive effort.

      Hello, cattia...

Hope your well, Just wondering how youve got on at the doctors today as I also feel in the same boat as you, I have felt improvements in my anxiety, and even had a good few days (so know something in working on these meds) but feeling like my mood isn’t really picking up - and im more low & depressive than when I first started - really hoping its just temporary and will pass - also have a review next week but think doc will change meds for me if not improved 😕

Hi Guys. Ok so ive been reading your posts and they all sound so similar to the stuff my partner is going through. He started sertraline 50mg 3 weeks ago and then after a week increased to 100mg...he has turned into a zombie who is always tired and down right fed up and angry at me...its only been 2 n half weeks on 100mg and by the seem of what your all discussing it could be 6-8 weeks. I suffer with depression too and this is not helping me either...is there a light at the end of this for him

    Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this too. My doctor said that after five weeks there ought to be more improvement than this so he suggests that I switch to Sertraline. I've taken it twice in the past and both times I've had a positive response after four weeks. The side effects were horrible though and having just been through that with Sertraline I'm none too keen to repeat it. I know that fluoxetine doesn't give me this kind of fatigue. It might wear off if I give it more time but to be honest I just don't feel that this is the right med for me. I have started to taper it and now need to decide if I'm brave enough to try fluoxetine. The Dr said I can start straight away. I've read loads of positive things about Sertraline so I know it works for many people. For those who decide to stick it out I wish you every success and hope it works soon.

I can't figure out how to edit my post, I mean switch from Sertraline to fluoxetine.

Sorry to hear it doesn’t seem to be working out Cattia, it’s disheartening when we get so far waiting for the “aha” moment, then have to start all over again...

Its does seem to have improved my anxiety, and im hoping by the 6week stage I will see some benefits in my mood but I wont go further than 8weeks if I fail to see improvement...

Fingers crossed, things improve for both of us soon (which ever med that will be) 🌹
