Thinking of stopping my HRT

Hi. I am new to this site.

I am 38yrs old. Been on HRT premarin 0.625 for 7 years now as i had a complete hysterectomy. Apart from the weight gain i have in the past 2 years started seeing my skin around my chin and neck turn into a grayish colour and looks darker than the rest of my face.

I have spent thousands on trying to fix this at skin clinics and dermatologists.

I am finally thinking of quitting my hrt to see if i can get an improvement in my skin and hopefully the weight as well.

I did try in the past but the flushes were really bad and my doc says that i need to take it otherwise i will age before my time.

Is there anyone in this group who experienced somethi g similair and what did you do to make it right.

I am nervous about stopping it but I think its the only solution for my skin.

Thanks

    Dear Sriasti

I am surprised to hear about your skin and I wonder if it has been confirmed that the problem is related to the HRT.  There is evidence-based research on HRT that shows the skin benefits from HRT in terms of texture.  I wonder if you might consider changing to another HRT.  I am not in your age group but when I started I had to try several before I found one that suited me.  I did this through a gynaecologist who specialised in hormones.

I wish you all the best.

I agree with Lyn - it seems too strange to be caused by hrt.  My experience with a dark grey tinge on my neck, face and other parts of my body were caused by undiagnosed haemochromatosis.  It was iron in my skin.  As your dr for an Iron Studies test - Ferritin Iron, Serum Iron, TS%, and TIBC.  This test is also a window to a lot of other health issues.

You definitely need hrt because you are too young! Hrt can prevent aging and I think that your skin problem hasn't to do with hrt. Take care!
