Thinning Skin Prednisone or lack of Carbohydrates

Posted , 12 users are following.

In reading the forums people say their skin is thinner and we tend to get tears like paper cuts. I mentioned this to my husband and he has noticed since the 2 of us have drastically reduced our carbohydrates he too has noticed his skin getting thinner and his hands in general get cut easier and nails growing faster.

So my question is,is it prednisone or the diet we are all on in eliminating /reducing carbohydrates?

I hope Eileen or some of you have an answer.

Many thanks. Mariane

Hi everyone, many thanks for your replys, julian and i enjoyed all your comments and it is so true my nails are growing faster but haven't noticed my hair. Just glad i still have it since i have alot of the other side effects 😕

the carbs we have given up are; bread, potatoes, pasta, i use honey in coffee no sugar, sweets and rice.

We both gained way to much weight so we started the diet just before my diagnosis and he has lost considerable and I've lost 20 since August 27th but still have over 20 plus to go. I fell off the wagon yesterday for some chips and felt so bad after and the scale showed it. Won't do that again it's like missing a prednisone dose. You only do it once😬

    Again thanks Mariane Canada

Yes, I have too tried to give up the carbs but live with a hubby who loves to bake chocolate chip cookies, biscuits, cake, brownies, rice, all kinds of carbs.  He is the carb king!  I do my best but if I cheat, bam, instant weight gain of a few pounds which then take weeks to get off again. Oh my.  Skin and hair have always been thin but I had chalked that up to low thyroid issues in my case.  Today is my birthday, 64, so it could also be age - hah!

I use rogaine for my hair. I've been using it off and on for 3 years. It really works!

I too have thin skin and bruise easily. However this started happening before I got pmr and I wasn't messing around with special diets. I was told is was just part of the aging process. Oh joy.
